Primary purpose:

triOS College Business Technology Healthcare Inc. is actively seeking an Instructional Designer to join the Academic Services team at our Campus Support Centre, located in Mississauga, ON.

The Instructional Designer helps support the ongoing operation of the development of new and existing programs and courses delivered in the on-ground delivery in the College. The Instructional Designer also assists the Manager of Academic Development and Instructional Design in the continuous improvement effort to ensure course quality standards are met, best practices are followed, and our courses and programs continue to improve while the learner and faculty experience improves.

The Instructional Designer supports the department by working with Subject Matter Experts on new programs and course design to build appropriate and relevant course material that aligns to the adult learning model. Focusing on the organization’s key objective to improve and maintain high quality and customer satisfaction.

The Instructional Designer will contribute to the ongoing validation that the College’s admission and aptitude testing, learning outcomes and educational outcomes meet specific industry requirements through needs analysis, instructional design, and employer/student feedback.

What you’ll be doing:

Curriculum:

Develop ideal learning outcomes. Solicit and build instructional consensus and development buy-in. Recommend the best method for curriculum development (build, buy, customize). Work with Subject Matter Experts on new program and course design to build appropriate and relevant course material that aligns to the adult learning model. Coordinate and lead major curriculum repair, revamp, and update efforts as identified by faculty and students.

Program:

Research and evaluate content providers for suitability in our classrooms. Research and evaluate industry software vendors for suitability in our classrooms. Create subject modules/outlines for the program submission process. Assist with evaluating program design and determining the ideal scheduling model. Assist with building and maintaining scheduling summaries for all of our offered programs. Assist with coordinating answers to questions during the submission evaluation process. Assist with building the appropriate course profiles within our College Management System. Assist with ensuring that course changes and book changes are changed within our College Management System.

Instructional Support:

Assist with providing direct instructional support on major requests and issues. Assist with building process documentation and information articles to support the instructional team. Assist with reviewing survey results and transforming student feedback into action items. Occasionally assist with coordination of training resources for new instructors. Assist with processing all feedback that comes from interactions with faculty and employees.

Communication

Prepare communication to ensure Academic Services is synchronized with the business. Lead and liaise between Academic Services and the school at large for questions related to program construction, learning outcomes, etc. Communicate rationale behind choices in curriculum, books, software, etc. Filter and respond to student complaints related to programs and curriculum. Filter and respond to instructor complaints related to programs and curriculum. Advise and communicate the suitability of changes to schedules; to manage the balance between academic ideals and business realities. Assist with communicating all pending and completed changes to programs, courses, resources, etc.

 Brightspace:

Act as one of the advisors for the curriculum as it exists or is being entered into Brightspace. Act as a principal advisor during the creation of content for online courses. Coordinate and create the appropriate assessment questions to ensure effectiveness for Brightspace delivery.

Relationships

Assist with building and maintaining positive relationships with our content providers, publishers, and industry software suppliers.

Project Management

Assist with communicating critical informational updates to project stakeholders. Assist with identifying and offering viable resolutions to problems that threaten the project. Assist with sourcing and evaluating resources that can be leveraged to ensure project completion (people, technology, materials, etc.).

What you bring to the position:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent post-secondary education. Two (2) or more years of business administration experience, preferably in an educational setting. Two (2) or more years of course development/instructional design experience. Previous experience in an adult education environment is an asset. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, in particular Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of instructional design and course development principles.
