As a Development Officer, you’ll play a pivotal role in advancing the University’s key priorities outlined in our Strategic Plan. Working closely with a collaborative team of development professionals and reporting to the Director, Philanthropy, you will be at the forefront of cultivating strong relationships.

What You’ll Do: Cultivate Relationships: Develop strong connections with donors and prospective donors, ensuring their philanthropic goals are aligned with the University’s strategic priorities. Strategic Portfolio Management: Take ownership of a major gift portfolio, utilizing your expertise and experience to secure vital donor support and maintain lasting relationships. Empower Collaborative Engagement: Work hand-in-hand with Faculty and Unit leaders to identify prospects, leveraging their strong ties to the institution and potential for impactful contributions. Craft Persuasive Proposals: Develop tailored solicitation strategies and proposals to secure major gifts. Facilitate Meaningful Interactions: Accompany University leaders on donor visits, providing invaluable support and insight to foster authentic connections and drive philanthropic engagement. Ensure Ethical Stewardship: Adhere to University policies and procedures regarding gift acceptance, naming rights, and donor recognition, ensuring transparent and ethical stewardship of donor contributions. If you are ready to use your people skills to connect and secure support for the University, this is the role for you Position Requirements What You Will Bring to the Position: Undergraduate degree; and 3 – 5 years of direct fundraising experience (including managing a portfolio of donors, developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships, and developing and managing donor communications); Equivalent education and experience may be considered. Preference to those with a Certified Fund Raising Executive Designation (CFRE).
Skills That Will Ensure Your Success in this Role: Must be able to build outstanding relationships; Be creative, resourceful, innovative and exhibit the ability to exercise leadership and function in a team-oriented environment; Ability to work under pressure to meet conflicting deadlines and take initiative; Ability to maintain confidentiality and have experience in tracking confidential records and financial information; Demonstrate flexibility and the ability to negotiate realistic time frames for the completion of tasks and projects; Must have proposal writing experience; Experience in interpreting and applying policies and procedures; Proficiency in Microsoft Office software: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook-GroupWise; Demonstrated understanding of fundraising methodology and/or relationship management and client cycles; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Must have the ability to accurately create, compose and edit a variety of written and electronic documents; Recognize problems quickly and effectively facilitate solutions; and, Able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and travel within and outside the province and country when required.
