Purpose of this position  

We are currently seeking a dedicated IT Support Specialist to support the IT infrastructure at our growing port facility. This role is crucial for maintaining the integrity of wireless mesh networks, vehicle-mounted data terminals, automation systems, and operations planning. The successful candidate will possess strong team skills and a deep understanding of IT infrastructure, with a focus on ensuring the efficiency and security of our operational technology.

Key responsibilities

Provide comprehensive support for wireless mesh networks, ensuring stable and continuous connectivity for terminal operations. Maintain and troubleshoot vehicle-mounted data terminals, including wireless mesh and OCR systems, to facilitate accurate yard moves and data capture. Support industrial automation systems, collaborating with engineering teams to optimize performance and resolve any technical issues in a 24/7 environment. Utilize network monitoring tools to proactively identify and address potential network anomalies or security threats. Adhere to incident, change, and problem management processes to minimize impact on operations and improve response times. Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of technology and operations. Conduct training sessions for staff on new technologies and best practices for system usage.

Qualifications, Job Function, Technical Knowledge and Skills

The successful applicant must acquire Transport Canada Security Clearance, as well as hold a Class 5 drivers license. Proven experience in IT support, particularly within industrial or port environments. Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, including wireless networks, vehicle-mounted data terminals, and position detection systems. Familiarity with OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology and its application in logistics and transportation. Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to lead and work within cross-functional teams. Experience with ITIL frameworks, specifically in incident, change, and problem management. Relevant certifications (., CompTIA Network+, CCNA, ITIL) are highly desirable. Fluent in English. Previous Canadian work experience or experience working directly with Canadian industries.
