Detailed Job Description

The Parks Planning department of the Climate Action,Planning and Development Services division has an opportunity for qualifiedindividuals to apply for the position of Parks Planner. Reporting to theManager of Parks Planning, this position offers 72 hours bi-weekly startingapproximately April 22, 2024.

The Planner’s role is to plan, design and administerthe development and delivery of high-quality outdoor public realm spacesbecoming of an international resort community. This includes public spaceswithin the Village, municipal parks, the Valley Trail and the recreationaltrail network. The position also entails planning and project delivery ofsupporting policy documents and related objectives. The Parks Planner alsomanages public wayfinding and reviews and inspects landscape components onproposed larger private developments. Firs Nation, community, and interestgroup engagement is critical to all aspects of the position, as iscollaboration with other municipal divisions and resort partners.

 Qualifiedcandidates will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture, ParksPlanning or similar discipline supplemented by at least 5 years of experiencein a similar role including parks and open space planning; conceptual designand development; the process of construction document preparation and tenderadministration; project management and budgeting and report writing.Additionally, qualified candidates will be proficient with software such as Microsoft360, SharePoint, AutoCAD or VectorWorks and ArcGIS software and will be anintern member, eligible for full membership or, be a registered member in goodstanding with the BC Society of Landscape Architects.

The successful candidate will have proven experiencewith effectively facilitating and leading group discussions and publicengagement; critically assessing landscape conditions and construction; andwriting and presenting reports. The successful candidate is creative,diplomatic, and is a flexible thinker who is committed to promoting a diverseand inclusive workplace within their team and will create and maintaineffective working relationships. Thestarting wage for this job position is $52.95 per hour.

As a requirement of theposition, the successful applicant must hold a valid BC class 5 driver’slicense and must provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract prior to beginning employment.
