About the role
We’re looking for an Intermediate Underwriter to join our growing Non-Standard Risks team
As an Underwriter in Non-Standard Risks for the Specialty Solutions team, you will develop a profitable portfolio of non-standard commercial and personal lines business with an emphasis on developing new business. You will work closely with Intact’s underwriters and brokers to develop and foster relationships, make decisions, assess risks and provide quotes in a timely manner. This is a fast-paced customer driven environment, your ability to work efficiently and establish strong internal and external relationships will be the key to your success.
This position is a full-time permanent opportunity and can be based in Dartmouth or Ottawa.
What you’ll do here:
Work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities daily
Analyze requests for quotes, renewals and policy changes, and recommend solutions
Rate and prepare quotes for new business and renewals
Handle policy transactions including renewals, endorsements and cancellations
Support brokers regarding underwriting and rating policies
Use negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company
Participate in broker visits, industry functions and marketing events
Provide ongoing support in expanding the department, and make recommendations for process improvements
As directed, generate letters and memos to brokers from the system
Support team members within Specialty Solutions as well as other divisions at Intact
Future travel may be required
What you bring to the table:
University degree/College diploma or any combination of equivalent education and experience
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in Personal or Commercial Lines Property Underwriting
Strong knowledge in Excel is an asset
Analytical, self-motivated and strive to deliver at a high standard
Initiative and ability to work under pressure
Strong team player, with outstanding collaboration and communication skills
Can develop and maintain excellent relationships with brokers
Interested in and stay up to date on business trends or other developments impacting our industry
CIP designation or working towards it
No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
