Addiction Counsellor II

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Addiction Counsellor will focus on the development and provision of community withdrawal management services to those clients presenting for service for opiate withdrawal and alcohol misuse within the Scarborough Health Network. This is a partnership funded position. The Addiction Counsellors are working closely with the nurses and physicians as a team in the RAAM clinic. Note: Travel between Scarborough locations, community agencies are required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences; Psychology;
* registration with professional college, as regulated;
* knowledge of current opioid issues including risks, overdose prevention and opioid replacement therapy
* ability to develop and maintain ongoing professional consultation and collaboration with community partners
* proven experience with program development and implementation;
* ability to be adaptable to program revisions during implementation and ongoing review of service
* significant experience with substance use populations, including intake/screening, assessment, treatment planning and case management functions
* significant experience in provision of individually-based substance use counselling, and group-based services, including psycho-educational and therapeutic modalities; experience with telephone counselling is also required;
* effective interpersonal, communication and organizational skills;
* proven working knowledge of theories of addiction, evidence-based treatment models and best practice approaches;
* proven knowledge of other key issues associated with substance use, particularly concurrent disorders, physical health issues, women's issues, homelessness, family issues, adolescent development and working with the youth population, and crisis intervention;
* proven knowledge of multicultural and diversity issues;
* demonstrated ability to work closely with the community, with the clinical team and independently in a manner consistent with high professional standards;
* proven ability to recognize and diffuse escalating or potentially violent clients;
* proven knowledge of community resources and provincial addiction system;
* proven commitment to a client focused philosophy of care;
* willingness to be clinically supervised and pursue ongoing professional development;
* maintain Ontario driver's licence and own transportation
* ability to communicate with other local languages: Tamil, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin);
* experience working with agencies in Scarborough areas and familiar with their services
*have been trained in GAIN-Q3 MI ONT (or agree to be trained)
* have certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
* Must have satisfactory performance record;
* Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;
* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-services in this area; and;
* Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standard;
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and OPSEU Local 348.
Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
