**JOB TYPE: FULL TIME 1 YEAR CONTRACT WITH POSSIBLE EXTENSION**

**WORK HOURS: 37.5**

**WAGE RATE: $33.48 - $37.81**

Under the supervision of the Clinical Director or Clinical Manager, Youth and Family Counsellors MSW (YFC-MSW)) will work with families and youth to promote change and growth within the family, home, school and community. The YFC will conduct assessments to determine treatment recommendations. Using a variety of theoretical frameworks the Youth and Family Counsellor will provide a combination of family, individual and group therapy for clients.

**Qualifications/Conditions of Employment**:

- Master’s Degree in social work or a relevant discipline (i.e. psychology, counselling, education)
- Must be registered and in good standing with an appropriate professional regulatory college (e.g. Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, the College of Psychology).
- Training in Crisis Intervention, Brief Services, Risk Assessment, and Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioural Therapies are considered assets.
- Training in Suicide Risk Assessment and Support is an asset.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in children’s mental health and experience providing crisis intervention with children, youth and families is preferred.
- Travel is required for this position, a valid class G Ontario driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle and an acceptable driving record.
- Knowledge of KIDS/interRAI assessment tools is an asset
- Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sectors Screening and Pre-Employment Medical.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.

**DUTIES**:
**Clients**
- As a member of a multi-disciplinary team the YFC would conduct assessments, compile histories and formulate a social diagnosis; this would include developing an understanding of the personal and environmental causes of behaviour and emotional dysfunction of families and youth. This is a crucial part of the job as it determines the course of treatment for clients.
- Participate in the Agency Walk-In and collaborative walk-in at Carea as assigned
- Through the process of therapy, the therapist will work with families and youth to develop treatment plans to improve the emotional, behavioural and interpersonal well-being of clients in achieving optimum psychosocial functioning.
- Critically evaluate and analyze information using multiple theoretical and conceptual bases in making professional, clinical judgments.
- Liaise with other disciplines, jurisdictions and community resources in delivering and evaluating treatment plans.
- Work independently on as assigned caseload (mostly families) within the framework of a treatment team. Minimal supervision and direction required.
- To make recommendations based on an evaluation of the adolescent within the program regarding the length of stay, familial support, and motivators to cause the adolescent to change his/her behaviour.
- To develop, evaluate, modify and/or revise treatment plans.
- To provide service by any one or a combination of recognized clinical methods including individual, family and group counseling.
- To work effectively in conjunction with other community agencies in the development and delivery of treatment services for the adolescents in the program.
- To participate in conferences and group discussions concerning adolescents in the program. To work cooperatively and negotiate effectively within the program and the agency and to maintain liaison with other disciplines, jurisdictions, community and outside resources.

**Administration**
- Document treatment planning and maintain appropriate agency reports.
- Ensure that all reports are kept in order and up-to-date, including: case contact notes, treatment goals and reviews, KIDS, ChYMH etc.
- Follow agency guidelines regarding percentage of direct service hours provided to families and youth.
- Provide input into program evaluations and development.
- Case manages clients and has regular contact with clients on the wait list.
- At the discretion of the Clinical Director/Clinical Manager, the YFC II may supervise college or university students on field placements from a recognized college or university

**PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT**:

- In conjunction with supervisor, participate in regular supervision sessions and an annual performance evaluation.
- Attend and participate in scheduled team meetings.
- Attend and participate in In-Service training as scheduled and required and attend recommended professional development opportunities

**WORKING CONDITIONS**:

- Work is generally performed in the office and various program settings.
- Work hours and scheduled are flexible as arranged with the Clinical Director/ Clinical Supervisor.
