Cumulative Effects Management Community Coordinator

Metlakatla Stewardship Society (MSS) has an immediate opening for a part-time Cumulative Effects Management (CEM) Community Coordinator in Prince Rupert. The CEM Community Coordinator will be responsible for supporting administrative processes for the Metlakatla CEM Program, including communications and engagement activities.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Liaise between key Metlakatla departments, external groups, staff, and researchers involved in the CEM Program.
  • Coordinate and support planning and delivery of community engagement activities, including CEM Gathering.
  • Coordinate and support planning and delivery of CEM monitoring programs (e.g., Metlakatla Membership Census).
  • Provide administrative support on project communications, including website and social media management.
  • Oversee project management and reporting tools.
  • Oversee general office administrative activities, including emails, maintaining supplies, and managing office spaces.
  • Maintain CEM Program inventories of digital and physical equipment and material; responsible for confidentiality and security of CEM Program’s digital infrastructure.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the CEM Program Manager or Designate. 

 

Qualifications, Key Skills and Abilities:

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent. A curiosity and passion for stewardship and community-based collaboration will also be considered.
  • Ability to engage Metlakatla members, managers and leadership for information and timely decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Some research experience and skills; data and communication security and confidentiality awareness. 
  • Computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office tools and basic understanding of GIS, Google Earth, WordPress, SurveyMonkey, other software programs, and data visualization and presentation tools.
  • Knowledge of Coast Tsimshian culture and practices and a demonstrated ability to work successfully with First Nation communities.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills. High attention to detail when managing deadlines.
  • Familiarity with community outreach and engagement work, with experience working closely with community members.
  • Ability to prioritize work, problem solve and take initiative in sourcing information.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a dynamic work environment, including a willingness and ability to adapt approaches to meet project/program goals.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
