Position Summary:

The incumbent, under the direction of the Managerof Academic Operations, School of Construction Management and under theguidance of the Surveying and Geomatics Technologist, assists with the maintenanceof surveying equipment and facilities used by the students in surveying fieldexercises. In the GIS/geomatics laboratory, the incumbent under the guidance ofthe Surveying and Geomatics Technologist ensures plotters, computers, andscanners are in good working condition. The incumbent is responsible for theday-to-day input and upkeep of electronic files in the GIS/geomaticslaboratory.

Key Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the Surveying and Geomatics Technologist, the incumbent prepares
equipment required for field activities.
Ensures student compliance of safety procedures and protocols.
Demonstrates levelling, total stations, GPS and other surveying instruments.
Assists student learning by reinforcing concepts and skills demonstrated by the professors and reviewing and explaining calculations used in the laboratory and field.
When requested, assists professor with assessing student performance.
In conjunction with professors, tests out new field activities.
Under the guidance of the Surveying and Geomatics Technologist, the incumbent organizes and cleans up laboratory according to GBC and MOL safe working protocols.
Provides input to the Surveying and Geomatics Technologist for the equipment preventative maintenance schedules, and equipment renewal plans.
Provides routine technical support to faculty, staff and administrators within the school and CCET.
Other duties as assigned.

Educational andExperience Requirements:

Three-year diploma/degree or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, or Geotechnical Engineering.
Minimum two (2) years’ experience in construction layouts, levelling, total stations, electronic digital theodolite, GPS equipment, route surveying including circular curves, parabolic curves, spiral curves, and roadway sections, survey and GIS software.

Skills and Attributes:
