The Opportunity Access Barrie combines customer service, marketing and communications, and transit and parking strategy. This strategic portfolio reflects the importance and need for the City to easily and efficiently connect the people who live and work in Barrie to the people, places, services and information that matters to them. Marketing and Communications work closely with staff from all departments, the Mayor, CAO and City Council to develop corporate communications plans and marketing strategies in support of City initiatives, programs and services. The Transit Outreach Program Coordinator plans, coordinates and oversees customer focused engagement strategies designed to increase awareness and benefits of Barrie Transit's services. This position leads public outreach initiatives such as special events, community engagement, rider educational campaigns, and the ongoing development and maintenance of transit focused travel training materials. This position will be responsible for developing relationships with key community groups and partners to build, educate and maintain ridership. The Transit Outreach Program Coordinator will collaborate with numerous partners, the public and internal staff. Responsibilities include developing program and education materials, promoting the services through public forums such as events, community engagement/outreach, and disseminating agency information to target audiences. A successful candidate will be innovative, collaborative, enjoy building/expanding outreach programs and has experience working with a diverse population. Further information is available at www.barrie.ca/government-news/jobs Position Equivalency Code: C Experience  Two (2) years of cumulative part-time experience or one (1) year of full-time experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities Demonstrated experience in the design and development of municipal public education materials and programs related to transit services and/or public transportation.  Knowledge/Skill/Ability  General knowledge of the following principles and standards: public transportation, community outreach and public involvement methods and techniques Working knowledge of the following principles and standards: promotion and education approaches of various municipal transit services and programs offered to the public Demonstrated Ability to: plan and coordinate events, manage daily workload, set priorities and meet required deadlines with conflicting demands and changing priorities.work independently with minimal supervision and directionutilize communications skills, both verbal and written, to prepare reports, drafts, etc.,utilize interpersonal skills to communicate with public, groups, students and mediautilize dispute and/or conflict resolution skills to effectively assist difficult customers in resolving service level issuestake photographs and utilize Corel Draw and Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and other.utilize corporate values including service to our community, integrity, achievement, continuous improvement, collaboration and dedication Intermediate skills include: Interpersonal; Written Communication  Basic computer literacy using the following systems and software: MS Office Software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, scheduling and presentation software and internet applications.  Availability to attend evening/weekend meetings or to work outside of designated normal hours per week Conditions of Employment Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence in good standing Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check* *Please note that this is a requirement for any new employees to the City of Barrie in accordance with the  Police Record Check Procedure .
