Overview

The Infection Control Associate works with physicians, clinical staff within various departments and services in order to realize the MGH IPAC mission: To prevent the transmission of Infectious Diseases by collaborating with patients, families and staff to develop evidence-based Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) solutions. At MGH the IPAC vision is to inspire an expansive and widespread Infection and Control culture. The position uses continuous quality improvement methodology to facilitate solutions to prevent or control the spread of infectious diseases. Although the Infection Control Associate has multiple responsibilities, the success of the MGH IPAC team is dependent on the ability of the Infection Control Associate to developa collaborative relationship with health care staff and facilitate quality improvement.

Education 

• Baccalaureate/Bachelor degree in Health Sciences or related field preferred with a certificate of competence issued by the discipline’s licensing body of Ontario.
• Completion of the CHICA-Canada Infection Control course or other courses related to Infection Prevention and Control required.

Qualifications

- Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
- Flexible, organized and self-directed within scope of responsibility; demonstrated initiative and 
independent judgment.
- Exemplary communication skills, both written and oral.
- Demonstrated ability to establish effective interpersonal relationships with the ability to persuade, motivate and influence.
- Sound facilitation and negotiation skills with the proven ability to handle difficult situations with tact, diplomacy and sensitivity.
- Sound judgment and initiative for priority setting; demonstrated ability to manage conflicting 
priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to be an Ambassador of best practice initiatives as it relates to all aspects of Infection Prevention and Control.
- Evidence of sound knowledge and skill with adult education techniques.
- Knowledge of quality improvement tools and techniques.
- Sound computer skills required.
- Good work and attendance record required.
