The Infection Control Associate provides assistance in the continuing development, implementation, evaluation, and modification of Unity Health Toronto Infection Prevention and Control Programs, engages all areas and levels of the organization in the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Program, improving health professionals¿, patients¿/residents¿ and visitors¿ understanding and compliance to infection prevention and control practices through staff/patient/resident engagement, mentoring, education, data collection, data management and analysis to ensure that Unity Health Toronto meets/exceeds MOHLTC and organizational targets for IPAC metrics including but not limited to hand hygiene; coordinates activities to identify and reduce the risks of acquiring and transmitting infections in patients, health care providers and visitors.
**Responsibilities**:
- Under the leadership of the IPAC Manager, plans, organizes and supports the Hand Hygiene program.
- Audits IPAC practices, e.g. hand hygiene to raise and sustain staff awareness, provide training and education, and increase/sustain compliance as per MOHLTC guidelines.
- Oversees and administers daily maintenance of database activities, such as data collection, management and analysis.- Creates and provides regular, accurate and meaningful data/report to internal and external stakeholders regarding the hand hygiene compliance, IPAC surveillance, and HAI rates.
- Assists public reporting of any IPAC related indicators as per requirements.- Provides ongoing feedback to managers and staff of hand hygiene and other IPAC performance.- Liaises between IPAC and frontline staff, patients/residents, and visitors regarding IPAC issues and provides support to hand hygiene champions on the units.- Formats and updates internal Infection Prevention and Control related alerts and communication- Plans, develops, organizes and coordinates the operation of activities/events.- Collaborates with the IPAC members as part of the team, supports the IPAC department with the planning, design, development, and implementation of IPAC projects and initiatives.- Supporting IPAC Committee including meeting planning, coordination (agenda, minutes, scheduling etc.)- Coordinate meetings (outbreak management team, IPAC team, etc.), including agendas, minutes, scheduling meetings, etc.- Facilitating office functions such as maintenance, IT requests, supply monitoring and ordering.- Support the IPAC manager in other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**:
- Undergraduate Degree required, preferably in a heath care related field. A combination of a non-heath care related degree and related experience may be considered.- Completion of an IPAC-Canada Infection Prevention & Control course preferred.- Certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC) by Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology Inc. is preferred.- Member of IPAC-Canada preferred.- Minimum 1 year experience in a healthcare facility required, 3 years preferred.- Minimum 1 year experience in a customer service, administrative role required, 3 years preferred.- Previous experience in infection-control strongly preferred.- Previous experience in database maintenance preferred.- Ability to analyze research and implement evident-based practice into Policy and Procedure development in both clinical and non-clinical practices.- Possesses highly developed analytical, problem solving, critical thinking skills.- Intermediate level skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.- Ability to accurately type 50 words per minute required.- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills required.- Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to collaboration and teamwork.- Demonstrated high level of organization and time management, with the ability to appropriately prioritize multiple demands in a busy environment.
