Infection Control Practitioner

**Overview**
The Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) works with physicians, clinical staff and various departments and services to provide surveillance and consultation related to infectious and communicable disease prevention and control. The role includes;
- Supporting IPAC program within main MGH campus and externally to members of the East Toronto Health Partnership;
- Consulting on and participating in the development of policies based on published peer reviewed best practice and compliance with regulatory bodies;
- Development, review and provision of education on aspects if Infection Prevention and Control;
- Participating and representing IPAC on internal and external quality councils;
- Providing expert advice to facility planners on the impacts of construction, renovation and/or maintenance in health care environments;
- Actively participating and disseminating information pertaining to control measures related to Outbreak Investigations within the facility;
- Perform call service as scheduled amongst members of the IPAC team;
- Incorporating the concepts of continuous quality improvement methodology in facility based education and research activities;
- Oncall support as required on a rotating schedule.
**Education**
- Undergraduate degree in Biological/Health Sciences, or related program, required.
- Master's degree in a health related discipline, preferred.
- Successful completion of an IPAC-Canada approved Infection Prevention and Control Course required.
**Qualifications**
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of Infection Prevention and Control, required.
- Demonstrated knowledge with relevant experience with construction, renovation and maintenance within a healthcare setting, required.
- Operational knowledge of software pertaining to electronic patient records, word processing and spreadsheet, statistical analysis, preferred.
- Ability to implement and conduct patient surveillance activities according to established criteria, best practices and evidence based research.
- Provides education, orientation and in-service to all levels of staff, physicians and patients.
- Demonstrated organizational,time-management and critical thinking abilities.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, verbal & written communication skills.
- Demonstrated excellence in presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and is self-directed while possessing the ability to work in a collaborative manner and within a team environment.
- Good work and attendance record, required.
