Planning Intern

Position Description:
Reporting to the Director, Planning or designate, the incumbent will be expected to carry out a variety of tasks relating to various aspects of municipal land use planning functions, such as:
Assist Planning staff with development applications and public meetings Research and analysis relating to the County Official Plan, Zoning Bylaw, Secondary Plans and specific topics Help undertake special projects, process improvements and reports Front counter customer service and assisting development stakeholder interests Data analysis and metrics Potential preparation of online public information, visualizations or other engagement toolsRequirements
Qualifications:
College or University Student enrolled in a discipline related to Planning, Environmental Studies or Geography Computer expertise with preference given to knowledge in design software, GIS and more advance knowledge of Microsoft Office Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act Understanding of how a municipality functions Ability to visualize concepts and turn them into workable solutions Excellent listening skills, coupled with a desire to learn new concepts Good time management, interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills Employment is conditional upon: attendance at all training sessions, submission of required documentation/certification, adherence to the minimum age requirements and ability to meet the employment term. At time of application must be enrolled in a post-secondary education institution or institution of higher learning. Applicants must submit a criminal record check (dated within the last 3 months) from their local police service for approval prior to commencing employment.Benefits
