Accuracy Control Technologist

The Accuracy Control Technician is responsible for in process, formal inspections for all specific trade systems and accuracy control activities at all stages of construction. The role is responsible to ensure specifications, class rules, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and work instructions are implemented at each stage of construction. The Technician develops the Inspection and Test Plan for the specific operation, trade area or system. The technician performs daily in process quality control inspections to identify nonconformities with contract requirements, develops corrective actions and communicates requirements to shop personnel.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.
This is a 24 Month limited term employment with eligible benefits and 3 weeks’ vacation each year.
What you’ll do
Reviews specifications, class rules, work instructions and SOPs to determine trade specific quality requirements for each contract. Develops new construction and repair projects’ Inspection and Test Plans for trade specific systems. Ensures plans are implemented in accordance with contract requirements. Performs daily in-process quality inspections of trade specific work. Documents and communicates results to responsible supervisors. Perform accuracy control activities for new construction and repair projects at Seaspan Shipyards. Produces and signs final inspection reports that are deliverable as objective quality evidence to the customer. Performs receiving inspection of components, mechanical and electrical systems, steel, and pipe. Attends formal inspections with customers and regulatory bodies. Documents all defects, nonconformities and provides results to responsible supervisors and Customer/Class as required. Works with trade and area supervisors to improve in-process quality. Performs gap analyses of procedures, work instructions and forms for trade specific systems. Communicates results to respective area and assists in developing and modifying procedures, work instructions and forms as required. Maintains quality files for trade specific area. Performs periodic audits of trade specific suppliers to ensure compliance with contract requirements. Performs additional duties as assigned.What you’ll bring
Diploma in relevant discipline (Electrical Engineering or Geomatics /equivalent Surveying measuring background preferred) or Red Seal Trades Certificates. 3 - 4 years’ experience in complex manufacturing industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 3 - 4 years’ experience as a surveyor or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be an asset. Technical understanding of NDT techniques and their application to meet contract, regulatory and statutory requirements for trade specific systems will be an asset. Prior Quality/Accuracy Control or Quality Assurance experience is desirable. Formal quality assurance certifications desirable. Understanding of the fabrication, installation, commissioning and testing of trade specific systems. Proficient in the use of Total Stations, Laser Scanning, Laser Trackers. Competent in the use of Survey Software, particularly Spatial Analyzer. Working knowledge of quality control and inspection procedures. Ability to develop Quality Plans and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs). Technical skills including an understanding of quality techniques, their application to shipbuilding and the ability to read and interpret technical specification and drawings. Ability to read material test report and understand chemical / physical requirements for steel. Strong Communication skills and customer service focus. Technical writing skills. Advanced computer skills including Outlook / Word / Excel / PowerPoint / Visio / SharePoint / AutoCAD, Rhinoceros. Ability to multi-task, prioritize and problem solve. Good judgment and reasoning skills. Ability to work with limited direction. Ability to travel to Victoria Shipyards on occasion.Why you’ll love working here
This role provides you a very competitive salary in line with the successful candidate’s experience. While this is a limited term position, there may be opportunities for extension depending on business needs. Free on-site gym. Parking is included and to assist those that are using transit, we operate a complimentary shuttle bus Monday through Friday with various pick up and drop off points around North Vancouver.The estimated salary for this position is $82,700 - $99,200. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
