Position: Wine Director, Il Caminetto
Reports to: Restaurant Director, Il Caminetto

As a storied address in the heart of Whistler’s Village, Il Caminetto has been reimagined by the acclaimed New York-based Rockwell Group into a vibrant, contemporary 160-seat dining room. An understated, nature-inspired interior design speaks to the beauty of the spectacular landscape and plays to the authenticity of the location. The regionally focused menu melds Italian and local flavours to showcase the best of nearby farms and waters.

JOB SUMMARY:
 The Wine Director will curate, develop, oversee, and manage the wine program, while working closely with the Chef culinary team and Bar Manager to support the creation and delivery of a unique and elevated beverage guest experience that is in harmony with the kitchen’s food program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 (other duties may be assigned as required)

Oversees the day-to-day beverage operations of the restaurant Serves as an educator, as well as an inspirational, committed, and responsible leader to the restaurant’s front-of-house teams Prepares for and inspires staff to deliver a memorable beverage experience Displays a passion for and about wine and the industry Delivers superior customer service through effective training and education Leads by example by delivering superior consistent customer service and hospitality Maximizes resources and budget by maintaining and monitoring inventory and expenses Develops a strong rapport with agents and wineries Drives positive results and aligns with business goals Under the direction of the Restaurant Director, initiates and executes special projects as required

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum 3 years’ experience leading a premium food and beverage operation Holds a high-level, professionally recognized Sommelier certification from WSET, CMS, ISG or another valued equivalent Related university degree or a combination of education and experience Strong business acumen with a proven ability to provide insightful industry leading, best-in-class outcomes to perpetuate growth in a premium service environment Highly committed to a premium level of quality Skilled at developing and creating food and beverage experiences that drive customer satisfaction and loyalty Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyze current business problems and implement recommended solutions A solutions-provider committed to a vision of service to create an ultimate guest experience Strong verbal and written English communication skills Superior conflict resolution skills, with the ability to relate professionally to all levels of staff, management, clientele, suppliers, and partners Excellent planning and organizational skills, including the ability to handle conflicting deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks Comfortable with dealing with media, public speaking, and VIP guests Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
