Support Staff Full-time Replacement Position

(First consideration for Support Staff and Academic positions will be given to internal applicants in accordance with the respective Collective Agreements)

Under the direction of the Program Manager, in compliance with the funded program guidelines, and College policies, the incumbent assists multi-barrier, unemployed, and underemployed workers to explore, access and retain employment and where necessary, initiates, develops, and secures employment opportunities, meaningful work experience and training placements for unemployed clients. 

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus and within the community as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement with 3-4 days on-site, and 1-2 days remote.

Responsibilities:

Uses a customer-centric, collaborative approach with the client, employer, and Community Career Centre team to support the client’s Employment Service Plans (ESP) through a tailored and monitored training/employment experience Interviews, assesses, and guides the customer in exploring their career, employment, and training goals to direct them to the services most appropriate to achieve successful outcomes Works with customers to identify activities, incentives, and supports that are most suited to the customer in achieving the desired outcomes Ensures continued support for access to other required services and programs such as literacy, settlement services, and any other services that support the client's employability Maintains ongoing work relationships and rapport with all parties involved Problem-solves and advocates on customer’s behalf to gain access to relevant community resources Identifies experiential opportunities, minimizes barriers, and creates pathways for clients to gain access to employment/training opportunities that align with their skill level and goals to achieve ESP objectives Develops individualized training/placement agreements, including determining the appropriate length of placement, level of financial incentives, monitoring schedule, required assessments, and training Identifies client’s need for support pre/during/post placement experience Develops a support plan and linkages with a mentor/coach and/or employer outlining steps and objectives, monitors the client/mentor relationship, and adjusts the plan to ensure success Develops supportive and strategic relationships with employers to identify and meet human resource needs, labour market opportunities, and trends, and to procure direct training/work experience for clients accessing assisted services Interviews, assesses, and guides existing and potential employers to identify human resource requirements Proposes business advantages for employer’s participation in the various components of Community Career Centre programs Confirms eligibility, assesses workplace capacity, and evaluates commitment to participate in funded programs requiring positive workplace training, on-the-job experiences, and hiring of identified clients Procures opportunities for participants seeking training/work experience, including apprenticeships, volunteer opportunities, job trials, or Part/Full-time employment that are subsidized or unsubsidized Identifies, educates, negotiates, and completes documentation to support work placement contracts, training objectives, commitments, and financial incentives for each individualized client/employer connection Develops goal and essential skill-oriented training plans with the cooperation of participant and employer to meet client’s training needs and employer’s expectations for trainee performance Provides training on sensitivity/diversity, workplace safety, and accommodation needs as required by employer/client while monitoring, problem-solving, and supporting client-employer relationships to facilitate success Responds immediately to clients and employers in crisis situations by demonstrating effective problem-solving and listening skills, and facilitating access to qualified professionals or organizing case conferences as necessary Markets the services available through the Community Career Centre to businesses, industry, community organizations, and various business associations Organizes and participates in the community activities, such as job fairs, trade shows, and employer networking opportunities Builds and maintains contacts with other service providers to facilitate the referral process Evaluates and provides feedback for revising materials on an ongoing basis, for example maintaining up-to-date labour market information and revising workshop material

Qualifications:

Three-year Diploma/Degree in a Social Science related discipline Two years of combined experience as an employment case manager and procuring employer leads for placement or direct employment; Case management experience includes developing and implementing individualized employment service plans for unemployed clients requiring career planning or job search assistance Assets include Life Skills Coaches Training, Career Development Practitioner Certificate, Human Resources experience Experience with developing marketing leads to support the employment goals of the job seekers Demonstrated experience conducting and participating in employer research, job fairs, and other related employer-focused events to identify target markets and outreach opportunities Proven track record for positive employment and training outcomes Effective group facilitation skills and techniques in a “life skills format” Demonstrated proficiency in research, computer use, and social media tools Flexible and creative approach to problem-solving and multi-tasking and able to adapt to change Awareness of programs and services in the community Ability to work independently and as part of a service team Excellent communication, high level of diplomacy, tact, and professionalism Strong facilitation, advocacy, negotiation, and critical thinking skills Ability to use non-violent crisis intervention and conflict resolution Access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel to multiple locations is required Able to work some evenings (averaging of hours applies)
