Support Staff Full-time Appendix D Contract Replacement Position (Immediate - May 5, 2023)

(First consideration for Support Staff and Academic positions will be given to internal applicants in accordance with the respective Collective Agreements)

The Career Advisor advises students and International graduates on a broad spectrum of career-related issues with the goal of yielding optimal post-graduate employment outcomes aligned with programs of study. The incumbent coaches students on building their career readiness competencies and leveraging their Student Experiential Record (SER) through work integrated learning opportunities, the Co-Curricular Record (CCR), paid employment, volunteering, etc. The Advisor supports activities, events, projects and initiatives designed to enhance the quality, capacity and sustainability of career services in strategic areas of interest.

**Responsibilities**:

- Delivers career advising services to current students and international graduates using a holistic, student-centered approach within an established service delivery model
- Fosters student career readiness by advising across a broad spectrum of career-related issues including career assessment, exploration, and pathways, labour market information, job search strategies, resume and cover letter development, personal branding, interview, and networking skills, and preparing for and navigating employer/recruitment events and activities
- Supports students in leveraging their Student Experiential Record (SER) to effectively articulate their knowledge, skills, and experience to meet their career objectives
- Coaches students on building their career readiness competencies through the Co-Curricular Record (CCR), on/off campus employment, volunteering, recreational or leisure activities, etc.
- Develops and delivers career services programming such as workshops, presentations, demonstrations, etc. and collaborates with other Student Affairs service areas to co-develop and co-deliver programming as required
- Supports activities, events, projects, and initiatives designed to enhance the quality, capacity, and sustainability of career services in strategic areas of interest which may include student/graduate employment outcomes, International student/graduate success, diversity and inclusion recruitment, the Student Experiential Record (SER) and competency development, on campus student employment, and the Career Peer program
- Utilizes Outcome (MyCareer Portal), the Student Information System (SIS), and online platforms such as Career Coach/EMSI Analyst to gather and analyze College/student data and labour market information
- Prepares summaries, reports and presentations for internal stakeholders
- Develops resource materials (print, digital) to support career related initiatives
- Supports Career Services programming, events and activities such as career/job fairs, information sessions, networking events, etc.
- As a member of a local campus team with common service goals, training, and campus team duties, the Career Advisor works collaboratively with the Campus Manager and their campus colleagues to provide clear, responsive, and consistent customer service that minimizes the need for further navigation and enhances overall service quality, capacity, and sustainability
- Participates in cross-functional training as required and remains current on service parameters and referral pathways for students requiring services beyond the scope of those provided by their primary department team/service area CCWIL
- Proactively engages in relationship building with campus colleagues and contributes to the development of a campus community
- Adopts a whole student approach and pursues opportunities to integrate support, services, and programming for students

Qualifications:

- Three-year Diploma/Degree in Business, Human Resources, Social Sciences or related field
- Three years of student advising experience in an academic or employment services environment
- Well-developed coaching and active/reflective listening skills with awareness of the challenges and barriers to employment often faced by International students, aboriginal students, and students with accessibility and mental health concerns
- Knowledge of Conestoga’s programs and services, the regional and local labour market, industry/employment trends, and best practices in student engagement and recruitment
