Graduate Research Assistant, Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy
The Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy (JSGS) is recruiting a Research Assistant beginning immediately to April 30, 2025. The Research Assistant will work, on average, 10‑12 hours per week. This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement and will report to Dr. Rachel Loewen Walker, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Studies.
This position is part of a SSHRC Partnership Development Grant titled, The Social Innovation Lab: Mobilizing Cultural, Legal, and Political Engagements with Gender and Sexuality, which is focused on re-orienting the community-university research relationship via community-directed projects. Taking the format of a community-university “laboratory”, we will bring together engaged community organizations and students to collaborate on projects pertinent to both the lived experiences of 2SLGBTQ people and to the social, cultural, legal, and political environments that both create and constrain them. The Gender Lab supports outcomes such as policy development around trans rights, supporting increased legal protections for 2SLGBTQ people in prisons, and advocating for access to comprehensive healthcare for gender affirming surgeries, among many other projects.
In the role of Research Assistant, the general duties and responsibilities will be:
Engaging with community partners to develop community research projects; Assisting with ethics applications and study design; Assisting with knowledge mobilization through the preparation of reports, summaries, analyses, and infographics, as needed; Providing logistical support for project and partners; and Participating in dissemination activities (workshops, presentations, etc.).Qualifications (Skills and Abilities)
Education: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a social sciences or related discipline. Candidates must be registered and in good standing in a graduate program at the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy at the University of Saskatchewan or the University of Regina.
Experience: Experience with coordinating social science research is required. Experience working with community partners is strongly preferred. Experience with the ethics process, knowledge mobilization, and event planning/logistics would be an asset. Knowledge of gender and sexual diversity and social justice initiatives would be an asset.
