**Graduate Programs Advisor**:
**Primary Purpose**: This position will focus on graduate programs advising to prospective and current graduate students. The primary goal of this position is to support student success and enhance the student experience through all stages of the student lifecycle.

**Nature of Work**: Reporting to the Associate Dean Research, the Graduate Programs Advisor works closely with other members of the graduate studies team. The Programs Advisor is part of a team within the College of Nursing that is responsible for the provision of support and service to current and prospective graduate students in the College of Nursing.

It is critical that this position establishes and maintains positive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent works both independently and collaboratively with others within the college, the campus community, and off-campus community partners. This position has a high level of direct interaction with students in a fast-paced environment and is driven by constant deadlines, continuous change, and shifting priorities.

You will assist students in making informed decisions concerning their education, and promote student success. This involves responding appropriately to students in a variety of situations and circumstances and making decisions about appropriate and possible alternate courses of action with follow-up if necessary. You are skillful at identifying and referring students at risk and/or in need of additional resources to the appropriate team member(s). You are willing to engage in graduate programs reviews and support the Associate Dean Research and Graduate Studies and the members of the graduate team in this endeavor.

The standard for the quality of work and timely completion of tasks is high. Consequences of error are significant to students’ academic progression, as well as to their health and wellbeing. The work requires an open mind, a positive attitude, willingness to learn, collaboration and communication skills, innovative thinking, good judgment, an ability to manage stressful or sensitive situations, and a strong commitment to creating an exceptional student experience. Considerable discretion is required, as this position is privy to, and works closely with, sensitive and highly confidential information.

The position requires occasional travel and work in evenings for recruitment, outreach, or college events.

**Accountabilities**:

- Provide advising to graduate students either individually or within groups regarding academic requirements, appropriate course selection, academic policies and procedures, and campus resources.
- Assist with planning and delivery of graduate student orientations, including logistics for orientations and residency weeks.
- Assist with graduate student program planning including meeting with current students to update program plans, creating student files and updating program plans.
- Review, update, and maintain student records to ensure students meet program requirements and graduation standards.
- Assist with course timetables for all programs in conjunction with the Graduate Program Coordinator and other members of the graduate team.
- Follow up with the appropriate Program Coordinator regarding appeals and academic misconduct.
- Coordinate extensions and leaves for all programs with the respective Program Coordinator.
- Assist with convocation processes, and at times with the convocation event.
- Consult with the Associate Dean Research and Graduate Studies on potential graduate committee agenda items.
- Submit required documents for waivers, WCB, WSIB, clinical requirements to agencies.
- Support the Graduate Program Coordinator and other members of the graduate team in providing orientation to students.
- Assist the Graduate Program Coordinator or other members of the graduate team with recruitment activities such as presentations/events, website updates and creation of print materials.
- Provide timely communication to support student’s success in the program
- Assist program coordinators with completing graduation paperwork to be sent to CGPS

**Education**: An undergraduate university degree in a field relevant to this position. A combination of education and experience may be considered.

**Experience**: Minimum two years university-level experience working with graduate students in a related role (academic processes and/or programs) or experience and training as an educational advisor.
