About Umicore Battery Materials in Canada

Umicore is preparing to build a battery materials production plant in Loyalist Township, Ontario - the first of its kind in North America. The cutting-edge facility will be a critical part of Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. Throughout the design, construction, and operation of the plant, Umicore will be seeking a variety of professionals who share our passion for innovation and sustainability.

What you will be doing

For this new site, we are looking for a Mechanical Construction Supervisor , reporting to the Senior Construction Manager. In this role you will be responsible for supporting the safe, efficient and quality execution of all mechanical construction related field activities, in close partnership with Umicore project leadership, third-party contractors, and key experts within our EPCM partner, to deliver timely and on-budget construction-related aspects of a multi-billion dollar industrial project, in support of Umicore’s major expansion plans in Canada.

Responsibilities

Input to Mechanical Construction related strategies for planning, resourcing and executing overall construction scope of the project  Inputs to Constructability Reviews, including table-top construction scenario planning, developing and challenging assumptions, and ensuring issues are resolved prior to mobilizing field construction resources Inputs to technical field documentation ahead of execution phases of projects, guaranteeing that safe, cost-effective solutions are implemented, using best available standards and guidelines.  Liaises with other areas such as Global Engineering, Process Technology, EHS, Operations, Operational Excellence, or other Umicore BUs (e.g. Battery Materials Refining), to integrate requirements and knowledge into the construction strategy.  Responsible to supervise and resolve day-to-day issues for multiple 3rd party contractors related to safety, scope, schedule and cost to deliver scope blocks on time and in budget  Works with the EPCM firm to represent Umicore’s expectations as “owner” for field-related decisions, punch list development and close-out. Oversee the construction and handover of projects to ensure projects are completed “as built” in accordance with design, budget, and schedule objectives

Who we are looking for

College or University-level training in Construction, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil or other relevant disciplines, augmented by construction field-specific training, certification or accreditations.  At least 15 years of progressive construction experience across multiple assignments, ideally with 5+ years’ experience in supervising mechanical construction activity for large industrial projects in relevant sectors  Technical experience and/or background in the construction of mechanical engineering projects specialties & relevant experience and understanding in the execution of industrial projects in operational environments. Familiarity with construction-related EHS standards, industry good practices and legal requirements applicable to the specialty of focus. Knowledge of industrial project trades and the interactions between all trades (project management, construction management, civil/building/facilities, electrical, piping, process, equipment and start-up activities).
