Position
Manager, Indigenous & Northern Affairs, Nunavut
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Director, Indigenous & Northern Affairs, this position will be a remote role ideally based in Kitikmeot Region.
Responsibilities
Oversee the work of the Supervisor, Indigenous & Northern Affairs and Coordinator, Sustainability on a daily basis to ensure annual workplans, and required tasks are being completed and priorities are being executed; Create, implement, and manage Indigenous & Northern Affairs led projects and programs; Lead the full cycle of monthly, quarterly, and annual socio-economic and social governance internal and external reporting; Implement a Stakeholder Management System for the Project, and manage its use post implementation; Manage internal implementation of the Back River Project Inuit Impact and Benefit Agreement (IIBA), and other agreements between B2Gold Back River Corp. and the Kitikmeot Inuit Association; Organize, and execute company participation in Project Certificate Socio-Economic Monitoring Working Groups and associated activities; Support the Human Resources Team in developing and implementing effective strategies to attract, hire, and retain Kitikmeot Inuit Project employees; Act as the first point of contact for the administration of the Team’s budgets, accounts payable, and tracking of both; Support the Project Operations Team by working collaboratively to develop and implement Inuit specific training programs and plans; Support the Director, Indigenous & Northern Affairs, & Manager, Environmental Permitting as needed in regulatory review processes; and Manage the established tracking system to regularly assess B2Gold’s performance towards achieving agreement objectives, and report on findings.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
Seven (7) to ten (10) years’ experience working in the resource development industry in Nunavut or Canada’s North focused on community, and Indigenous engagement and environmental and social governance; Post-graduate degree preferably in environmental studies or social science, legal, public policy, and administration; Knowledge of the Nunavut Agreement, and regulatory setting in Nunavut are considered a strong asset; Previous experience working in the private sector alongside an Indigenous organization, Territorial Government, or representative organization will be considered a strong asset; The ability to fluently speak, read, and write Inuinnaqtun or Inuktitut considered a strong asset; and Priority hiring consideration given to Kitikmeot Inuit, Nunavut Inuit, and Residents.
Compensation and Benefits
The starting annual salary for this position is $150,000.00 plus 20% Bonus
B2Gold Nunavut offers a competitive compensation package, including salary commensurate with experience, knowledge, and skills, plus a group benefits package for employees and their dependents.
