Responsibilities include developing goals and strategies for the TLI and managing its comprehensive operations. This encompasses personnel management, labor relations, budgeting, and the recruitment of faculty and staff. Key duties include setting a vision for Teaching & Learning, Library Resources and Operations, and the Learner Success Centre. The key functions are to support students academically, faculty, instructors, and inside and outside classroom activities. The position also entails coordinating TLI events, formulating policies and regulations, supporting program advisory committees, engaging in pan-institutional projects, and maintaining relationships with other institutions and affiliated organizations. Functions and Duties Strategic Leadership and Management

1. Plays a key leadership role in the direction, growth and development of the portfolio and the College and is a member of the Leadership Council and the Provost Leadership Council.

2. Anticipates, recommends, and contributes to the development of institution-wide policies and short- and long-term planning, operating and capital budgets and policies and procedures for the TLI in keeping with the College’s mission, vision, values and strategies.

3. Plans, directs and coordinates the delivery of the Teaching and Learning Innovations assigned to the portfolio including program mapping and development, assessing the feasibility of new initiatives and evaluating and modifying existing educational programs and student academic support, including Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). Undertakes regular reviews of educational programs and implements required actions and is responsible for the quality assurance of student academic supports by working closely with the departments, faculty, instructors, Applied Research, and Education Council in this endeavor.

4. Co-create with community, instructional, staff, and faculty employees regarding Indigenous ways and knowing and internationalization of the curriculum.

5. Designs and implements academic support outside of the classroom, within programs, program delivery, and by supporting the quality of instruction. Supports and creates student activities and competitions to promote student success.

6. Responsible for TLI human resources including organizational design, workload assignments, employee recruitment, orientation and training, performance evaluation, professional development, labour relations, and health and safety. Is responsible for ensuring a professional work environment for employees and works closely with People Services and employee group representatives to build and maintain good relations.

7. Promotes and encourages teamwork by consulting with and supporting instructional TLI employees and staff. Fosters a learner-centred environment by encouraging instructional and faculty employees to innovate in both curriculum and program development and learning and teaching. Develops and maintains effective communication and coordination between the TLI and the College and community by fostering relationships whereby OC can support regional economic development and respond to the labour needs of the region in terms of TLI services.

8. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with other Deans and Directors and Education Council regarding TLI programs offered in all regions.

9. Represents and promotes the College and its programs on local, provincial, and national committees, and liaises with deans at other institutions and with government, academic associations, professional associations, accrediting bodies, school districts, health authorities, private sector organizations and various other agencies as it relates to programming.

10. Manages the TLI budget and finances and is accountable for allocations and expenditures within the approved budget.

11. Administers and ensures adherence to college policies and collective agreements by participating as needed as the designated supervisor in grievances. Provides input to, or participates on, the College’s negotiating committees in collective bargaining.

12. Ensures support services for TLI that other related resources are available for instructional and faculty employees.

Teaching and Learning

1 . Lead the development, implementation, and continuous review of educational programs, ensuring they meet current and future needs of students and align with industry trends and accreditation standards.

2. Establish faculty and instructional development initiatives to enhance instructional skills, incorporate innovative teaching methods, and promote the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) across disciplines.

3. Leads the integration of educational technologies to support digital and blended learning environments, improving accessibility and student engagement.

4. Guide efforts to decolonize, internationalize and indigenize the curriculum, in consultation with the deans, schools, and other college departments ensuring that programs reflect global perspectives and respect cultural diversity and indigenous knowledge.

5. Implement rigorous quality assurance processes and promote academic integrity, ensuring educational programs and faculty conduct meet the highest standards of excellence and ethics.
Library Services

1.Develops and maintains agreements with consortia, other academic and public library groups, and governmental bodies.

2. Undertakes regular reviews of Library and Kelowna Learning Centre programs and services and implements appropriate follow-up actions.

3. Oversees the professional development plans for library staff, ensuring high standards of performance and continuous learning, while also managing recruitment, training, and evaluation processes.

Learner Success Centre
1. Manage the Success Center services, aligning them with Teaching and Learning operations to provide comprehensive support for students in their academic endeavors.

2. Performs other duties as assigned. Education and Experience Master’s degree in a relevant field of study. Doctorate or equivalent preferred. Minimum ten years in post-secondary education, with significant experience in both administration and teaching.
