Disability Case Manager

Cowan Insurance Group is looking for a Disability Case Manager to join our team Reporting to the Manager of Return to Health - Wellness & Disability Solutions, the Disability Case Manager will be responsible for the proactive management of short-term disability and accommodation claims. They are also responsible for delivering timely, professional and responsive service to our clients. Case management will be performed using our proprietary disability program, COLO. We approach disability management with a holistic view and our success comes from our strong collaborative and functional approach to case management.
What you will do:
Review of medical, functional/cognitive, employment and contractual information of new and ongoing claims to determine initial and ongoing entitlement for benefits in accordance with the client’s policiesProactively manage claims through identification of appropriate cost-effective measures to assist employees with their recovery and return to workEffectively communicate verbal and written decisions (approvals or declines) to all stakeholdersMaintains regular professional contact with clients in regard to employee claim statusDevelop and execute comprehensive case management plans including implementation of return-to-work programs and accommodation within the workplaceRespond to inquiries from claimants, employers, physicians, lawyers, and internal business partnersEnsure all case managements notes and records are accurately documented and maintainedWork collaboratively and communicate clearly and professionally with co-workers.Active participation in Return to Health team meetingsParticipate in case conference calls or meetings with clients upon request – some travel may be requiredProvide education and support to employers on disability management best practices and AODA requirements.Co-ordinate Medical Consultant discussions and referrals for file reviews, as requiredProfessionally resolve employee or client complaint/concerns and service issuesAttend occasional client meetings, that may include travelWhat you will bring:
Post-secondary diploma or degree in an area of health or behavioral sciencesMinimum of 3 years short/long term disability claims managementWorker Compensation claims and process (WSIB or other similar provincial boards) experience considered an assetProficient keyboarding and computer skills, including Word and ExcelStrong attention to detail and sound judgment, ethics and integrityHighly driven and self-motivatedStrong customer service and caring attitudeExceptional decision making, analytical and problem-solving skillsDemonstrated organizational skills and ability to juggle multiple demands to achieve priorities and required resultsDemonstrated ability to tackle contentious situations and negotiate positive resultsProven ability to work collaboratively in a team environmentSuperior written and oral communication skills including professional business writing in English; French language is an assetWho we are
