DUTIES
Reporting to the Chair of Community Services, the instructor will teach in a variety of programs that include Child and Youth Care, Disability and Community Support and Early Childhood Education. The instructor will be required to teach a course centered on providing a context for supporting Indigenous people in the community. To do so, it is imperative that the successful candidate has extensive experience in facilitating workshops and training related to Indigenous history and culture as well as a deep understanding of Indigegogy and Truth and Reconciliation. Instructors are responsible for creating and maintaining a welcoming, positive learning environment that supports diverse learners while building community. Duties include but are not limited to maintaining student records, classroom management, student evaluation, Work-Integrated-Learning (practicum) supervision, marking and grade submission, preparing course outlines and curriculum development.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A diploma/degree in a relevant field of study (including but not limited to Indigenous Studies, Community Services, Social Sciences) Experience working in the field of Community Services, Child & Youth Care, Disability & Community Support and/or Early Childhood Education, specifically working with Indigenous children, youth, families, and adults Self identifies as an Indigenous person Lived experience and/or expertise in Indigenous knowledges, Indigeogy, epistemologies, methodologies, histories, traditions, and/or languages Extensive knowledge of Indigenous culture, history, knowledge systems and community relationship building practices as well as Truth and Reconciliation Effective leadership skills Strong presentation skills The ability to create a positive classroom environment for diverse learners with a commitment to student success Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to use conflict resolution techniques to facilitate positive outcomes Effective written communications skills Effective verbal communications skills The ability to work in a collaborative environment as well as independently Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvementASSET QUALIFICATIONS
Teaching for Learning Certificate or equivalent Adult Education certification Experience instructing and training in a post-secondary or community services setting Related Master's Degree (Masters of Social Work or other related program)CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
