About the Role

Supports the operation and use of teaching and research laboratories, facilities, services, equipment, and technical resources in the Faculty of Applied Sciences. Primarily supports the research and teaching activities in Mechanical Engineering. Provides instruction and training to users (students, faculty and external clients) in the safe operation of the equipment and works with students and research staff to in developing experimental and testing procedures. Laboratory equipment includes advanced mechanical laboratory machinery, instruments, experimental devices and systems, engineering specific development kits, platforms, applications and computer systems. Member of the safety committee and supports program accreditation and reviews.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering, First Aid and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Certification. 3 years minimum experience with best practices and industrial standards in engineering design protocols, processes and quality assurance cycles for engineering specific applications, systems and development platforms. An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.

Excellent knowledge of teaching and research standards, science laboratory requirements and configurations. Excellent knowledge of common and specialized engineering and scientific laboratory equipment, instrumentation, facilities, operations and procedures in modern engineering sciences Good knowledge of related laboratory health and safety guidelines/regulations (University, Provincial, Federal), risk management assessment, laboratory hazards (e.g., chemicals/mechanical/electrical), and safety equipment/procedures. Good knowledge of the principles of planning, design and construction of institutional laboratory facilities. Excellent planning, organizational ability, analytical reasoning, negotiation, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
