Artspace is a 55,000 square‑foot heritage building located in the heart of Winnipeg’s Exchange District. In 1986, the Provincial Government gifted this building to all Manitobans as a means of expanding and securing the art sector’s place in downtown Winnipeg. For the last nearly 40 years, Artspace Inc. has provided affordable space and shared administrative services to dozens of arts organizations and artists. In addition to facilities management for the arts, Artspace also does arts advocacy work and participates in special projects such as the Lights On the Exchange Festival and Alleyways in the Exchange. Artspace is currently recruiting an Operations Director to work in a co‑director model. Hours 25 hours per week between Monday and Friday. Occasional evenings and weekends required. Work to be conducted primarily on site at 100 Arthur St. Salary and Benefits $28–32/hour based on qualifications and experience. Eligible for employee benefits after a three‑month probationary period. Two weeks paid vacation for the first 12 months of employment. Reports to Artspace Board of Directors Shared Responsibilities with Executive Director Work collaboratively with the Executive Director and other staff as needed; hold a general understanding of different staff roles and be able to support and cover for coworkers when needed. Policy and Procedure: Ensure compliance with Artspace policies among tenants, members, staff, and board, and maintain extensive familiarity with organizational policies, procedures, bylaws, and licenses. Strategic Direction: Align operations and special projects with the Strategic Plan; oversee capital investments in managed properties and identify and address accessibility barriers. Special Projects: Lead project curation, execution, and promotion; establish and maintain partnerships; manage contracts with artists and suppliers; coordinate sponsorships and permits; develop programs that respond to community needs; and oversee project budgeting and reporting. Stakeholder Relations: Liaise with community partners and sponsors; government representatives, and tenants. Key Responsibilities Building Management: Liaise with Artspace superintendent; manage tenant licenses and rental operations; oversee building upgrades and supplier contracts; coordinate all repairs and maintenance; communicate with tenants and coordinate access logistics. Member Services: Prepare invoicing data; maintain shared equipment and boardroom bookings. Community Support: Coordinate interior and exterior rentals and film rentals as needed. Fundraising: Manage fundraising projects, advertising, and promotions; track success and prepare reports; promote fundraising initiatives. Communications: Make changes and updates to the website, communicate news to membership, and handle some social media as required. Qualifications Required Minimum 5+ years experience in operations, project management or community engagement. Strong familiarity with the arts sector. Experience working in board‑run organizations and nonprofit structures. Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive practices. Strong organizational, communication and conflict resolution skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently. Comfortable with building management and liaising with contractors and tenants. Familiarity with financial processes. Experience with fundraising and stakeholder relations. Additional Skills/Assets Bilingual in English and French Holds a Manitoba Driver’s License Work Culture Artspace is a small staff managing a very large building. This job offers some flexibility in terms of hours of work, time off, and the ability to work from home from time to time. However, due to the nature of heritage building management, sometimes work is required outside typical hours, also requiring flexibility from staff. The Artspace Board of Directors meets every two months with Artspace leadership, and Board‑led committees, including executive, fundraising, and governance and nomination, meet every other month. Artspace staff are expected to manage the scheduling and facilitation of these meetings, and carry out the directives of the Board while also setting their own goals for the organization, guided by the strategic plan.
