About this opportunity:

Cenovus has exciting opportunities for a Staff Geophysicist and Senior Staff Geophysicist. In these roles the ideal candidates will work with asset geologists to plan annual stratigraphic well programs in order to delineate clastic reservoirs for thermal development. They will also work with multidisciplinary teams to plan and execute the delivery of SAGD pads , provide QC for processing seismic data, all while staying current on best practices and utilizing appropriate parameters for the needs of the business . Applying geophysical interpretation techniques, including seismic inversion to characterize reservoir complexity will also be key in these roles.

What you'll do:

  • Work with a multidisciplinary team (Geologists, Geomodellers, Engineers) to plan annual stratigraphic well program and observation well program in support of reservoir delineation and surveillance

  • Work with a multi-disciplinary team (geologists, production & reservoir engineers) to troubleshoot completions, production/steam trends & operating pressures to find solutions for maximizing production and minimizing SOR.

  • Work with the seismic acquisition team to plan 2D and 3D seismic programs to aid in reservoir delineation and characterization

  • Provide QC for processing of seismic data, staying current on best practices and utilizing appropriate parameters for the needs of the business

  • Apply geophysical interpretation techniques, including seismic inversion, to characterize reservoir complexity

  • Provide geophysical input for geomodels, regulatory submissions and resource management reports

  • Ensure consistency in development practices while fostering effective communication across disciplines

  • Provide technical mentorship to junior employees

  • Accountable to propose improvements to process and outputs

  • Key stakeholders include: Geologists, Geomodellers, Geoscience Technologists, Reservoir & Production Engineers

Who you are:

  • Models Cenovus values in all interactions and activities

  • Registered member of APEGA

  • 12+ years of experience

  • Advanced skills in seismic interpretation and analysis

  • Experience with a wide range of geoscience software such as Hampson-Russell, Jason, and SeisWare. Strong skills in Petrel preferred.

  • Solid understanding of clastic depositional systems

  • Working experience with SAGD projects is an asset

  • Ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues and understand business impacts
