Overview The Representative for Children and Youth’s Office (RCYO) is an independent office of the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut. The RCYO works to ensure that legislation, policies, procedures, programs, and services put in place by the Government of Nunavut provide ethical, equitable, and consistent outcomes that meet the needs and support the rights of young Nunavummiut, and the families who rely on them. The RCYO fulfils a range of responsibilities under the Representative for Children and Youth Act that hold government accountable, including individual advocacy, systemic advocacy, reviews of critical injuries and deaths, and public awareness, outreach, and education functions. Responsibilities Investigate and review systemic issues affecting children and youth, critical injuries and deaths, as well as community complaints and referrals. Act independently and within a team environment to generate office reports that support recommendations for systemic, social, and public policy change. Ensure that all review and investigative services are conducted in a timely, fair, and compliant manner in accordance with the Representative for Children and Youth Act, Inuit societal values, and office policies. Qualifications Recognised university degree in social sciences or a related field. Three years of relevant work experience (including research, analysis, and writing) and experience leading complex and sensitive reviews or investigations. Highly Sensitive Position – satisfactory Criminal Record Check and a clear Vulnerable Sector Check are required. Fluency in one or more of Nunavut’s official languages (Inuktut, English, French) – fluency in more than one language is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut, and experience working in a northern cross‑cultural environment. Strong research, analytic, and written communication skills.
