Roles and Responsibilities:


The primary responsibility of a Real Estate Law Clerk is to provide professional support and assistance to lawyers practicing in the area of Real Estate by preparing a wide variety of legal documents, drafting correspondence and communicating with clients (including acting as an intermediary between clients and lawyers) to support the successful completion of real estate transactions, as well as performing other general office and clerical duties.


Specific day-to-day responsibilities may include:


  • Completing new client intakes and scheduling consultation appointments
  • Opening and closing client files, in accordance with the Firm’s policies and procedures, individual lawyer file opening procedures, and LSO requirements
  • Managing emails, correspondence, calendar entries, client meetings, closing dates, etc.
  • Acting as a liaison with clients, opposing counsel and other third parties
  • Managing electronic client files in accordance with the Firm’s policies and procedures
  • Collecting, organizing and reviewing client documents and information necessary for the closing of the client’s transaction
  • Reviewing Agreements of Purchase and Sale, noting critical dates, obligations, etc.
  • Submitting requests for title searches and off-title searches; reviewing search results
  • Conducting online sub-searches and execution searches (Teraview)
  • Assisting with applications to municipalities for division of land (severances)
  • Assisting with the identification and resolution of title issues
  • Preliminary drafting of requisition letters and responses to requisitions letters
  • Monitoring deadlines (internal / external) to ensure timely completion of file-related tasks
  • Reviewing mortgage instructions and ensuring compliance with all requirements of same
  • Drafting of real estate closing documents (for sales, purchases, refinances, etc.) and assisting with the closing process, including registration of documents (Teraview)
  • Reporting to clients following the completion of transactions in a timely manner
  • Docketing time daily and maintaining accurate billing records
  • Processing client invoices and monitoring client payment of accounts


Qualifications and Skills:


This opportunity is most suited for law clerks with 5 + years of related experience that wish to gain valuable experience and continue to develop their expertise, while maintaining a work-life balance only available in the City of Kawartha Lakes.

You will work efficiently under pressure, while maintaining an excellent standard of performance and client service. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, have exceptional attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.


You will be comfortable with technology tools, including having a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook, Unity and Teraview. Experience with practice management software is an asset.


Compensation:


Compensation will be commensurate with experience and/or ability and, as such, may be different than the pay range indicated. Group benefits and retirement savings plans are available. This is an in-office position. Hybrid work options may be available.
