Communications/PR Intern (Toronto)

 

Join the Impact Public Affairs team in Toronto to gain hands-on experience in public relations, strategic communications, and advocacy efforts. We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Communications/PR Intern to join our talented team of professionals.

 

Through Impact’s paid Internship Program, the successful candidate will work closely with our experienced team members to assist in the development and implementation of effective communication strategies for our clients.

 

Founded in 1997, Impact Public Affairs is a full-service government relations and communications firm based in Ottawa, with offices across Canada. No other public affairs firm has the depth of experience and track record of success in ensuring that our strategies allow organizations to deliver effective messages to government officials, the public, and key stakeholders.

 

Position Type: Intern, Hourly (40 hours per week)

 

Contract Length: May 2024 – August 2024

    *Opportunity for position to become full-time, permanent

 

Location: In-Person (250 University Avenue, Toronto, ON)

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Support the communications and PR team in researching, developing, and implementing strategic communication plans and initiatives.
  • Assist in drafting press releases, media pitches, articles, and other written materials for various communication channels.
  • Engage in social media content creation, scheduling, and monitoring across various platforms.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating media lists, contact databases, and other relevant resources.
  • Conduct research to support the development of communication strategies and client presentations.
  • Assist in preparing reports and presentations summarizing communication efforts and outcomes.

 

Qualifications/Skills

 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Basic understanding of public relations principles, media relations, and communication strategies.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and content creation.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn and contribute.

 

Education and Experience

 

  • Currently studying or recently completed a degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • In-depth understanding of Canada’s political landscape, legislative processes, and government structures.
  • Experience working/volunteering on Parliament Hill, at Queen’s Park and/or on campaigns is an asset.
