Our client is seeking a highly experienced Labour Relations Principal Advisor to support their operations in the northwestern part of British Columbia . This role is critical in providing strategic and operational labour relations support, with a strong focus on managing a complex collective agreement, fostering sustainable labour relations governance, and strengthening long-term union relationships at the site.
Main responsibilities:
- Leading the development and execution of long-term, sustainable labour relations strategies for the site.
- Establishing structured governance frameworks for labour relations, ensuring compliance with the collective agreement and labour laws.
- Partnering closely with site-based HR and operational leadership to drive a proactive, solutions-focused approach to labour relations.
- Managing and overseeing all aspects of the collective agreement, including interpretation, application, and compliance.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with union leaders to foster constructive dialogue and collaborative problem-solving.
- Supporting labour arbitrations, legal proceedings, and external labour disputes as required.
- Providing expert advice to HR teams, site leaders, and operational managers on labour relations matters, including grievances, investigations, dispute resolution, and policy application.
- Implementing best practices to improve site efficiency, reduce risks, and enhance workforce engagement.
Requirements:
- A strong commitment to safety, respect, and operational excellence.
- 5 - 15 years of experience in labour relations within a unionized environment, preferably in a large or complex industrial setting.
- Degree in human resources, industrial relations, law, or a related field.
- Deep expertise in collective bargaining, grievance handling, and union negotiations.
- Strong understanding of labour laws, industrial relations practices, and employment standards applicable in the region.
- Proven ability to manage and influence stakeholders at all levels, including union representatives and senior leadership.
