We are currently seeking a licensed and experienced Paralegal Contractor to join our growing team. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of civil litigation, be comfortable managing client files independently, and thrive in a fast-paced legal environment. Experience with Small Claims Court, Landlord and Tenant Board matters, and human rights complaints is a definite asset. Familiarity with key legislation, such as the Rules of the Small Claims Court, Courts of Justice Act, Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, and Residential Tenancies Act, is also helpful.
Role Description:
This is a part-time Paralegal Contractor position located in North York, ON, with the flexibility to work from home. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing and reviewing legal documents, conducting legal research, and providing support for various legal matters, and must be comfortable attending court as needed. This role involves effective communication with clients and legal professionals while efficiently managing multiple priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional customer service to prospective and current clients
- Conduct consultations online, in-person, over the phone, and via email with new prospective clients
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all client and internal information
- Communicate clearly and professionally with courts, clients, internal staff, and other legal professionals
- Prepare and manage a variety of legal documents, including pleadings, affidavits, motion records, and enforcement-related materials
- Obtain and organize necessary documentation from courts, clients, and opposing counsel
- Conduct legal research and analyze case law and relevant legislation
- Reconcile daily transactions and prepare bank deposits for both business and client accounts
- Ensure adherence to company policies and legal procedures
- Provide general administrative and clerical support as needed
- File and serve legal documents in accordance with the Rules of the Small Claims Court
- Keep case information updated and accurate in Clio and other CRM systems
- Manage and track important court dates, deadlines, and limitation periods
- Coordinate with clients, court personnel, opposing parties, process servers, and other third-parties as required
- Support enforcement actions such as default judgements, garnishments, and other post-judgement remedies,
- All additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
What You Bring:
- At least one year of relevant legal experience as a licensed paralegal in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- Solid understanding of Ontario's civil litigation and Small Claims Court procedures
- Exceptional professionalism, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills
- Proficient in MS Office, Google Workspace, and legal practice management tools like Clio
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines while consistently delivering high-quality work
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a client-centered approach
- Previous experience in a high-volume or fast-paced legal environment
- Ability to thrive in challenging situations with a calm demeanor, sharp critical thinking, and a solutions-focused attitude
