Your Opportunity:
The Psychologist I (Psych I) will carry out advanced professional duties as assigned including clinical assessment, treatment, testing, and counseling of patients deemed Not Criminally Responsible due to a Mental Disorder (NCRMD) or have been found Unfit in accordance with the Criminal Code of Canada. They may also support with clinical program development and tasks for the program in addition to duties as a member of the treating clinical team. The primary patient/client population that this position serves is one with complex Forensic and Mental Health issues. Primary treatment services are provided within the context of a forensic mental health outpatient clinic setting. The Psych I may provide services to patients residing in the community recovery homes and infrequently, the inpatient NCR population as clinically indicated. The role may include program development, staff development & training, service planning, quality improvement and evaluation and/or research activities as identified. Working within an interdisciplinary team, the incumbent will provide therapeutic psychosocial interventions in an individual and group format and/or to families as appropriate to establish and sustain effective treatment strategies for the client. Identifying client needs and connection to community resources for the benefit of client discharge/transition and successful community reintegration. Work will be performed with a high degree of independence within broad guidelines and in accordance with program and professional standards of practice.
Description:
As a Psychologist I, you will work with or within teams to provide a range of standard level psychology services to patients and their families within the established standards, directives, and policies for the work environment. Your services may include psychological screening and/or assessment, diagnosis, interventions, rehabilitation, prevention and promotion, as well as educational activities. You will collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals in planning and implementing services that align with best practices and ethical and professional standards. You will provide input to the interprofessional team related to psychological factors, barriers and dynamics that influence client treatment planning, participation, outcomes and team functioning, and consult and collaborate with teams and community services. Your duties may also include providing supervision to psychometrists, provisional psychologists and/or masters level psychology students, and providing input into program, policy and/or procedure development in addition to participating in formal research initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in Psychology in an applied area relevant to the practice setting from an accredited university program. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in psychology or equivalent. Current active registration in good standing with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP). 3-5 years prior experience in an acute mental health setting. 3-5 years prior experience in a Community Mental Health setting. Experience providing therapy and psychosocial interventions essential (group and individual). Experience in administration and interpretation of psychological testing essential. Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary setting required. Must have authorization to perform restricted activities. Solid interpersonal communication skills, interviewing techniques and writing skills required. Formal training or practical experience utilizing CBT, DBT, Group Psychotherapy, Family therapy &/or other endorsed forms of therapy is required. In-Depth knowledge of mental health / Mental Illness required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Training in neuropsychological and risk assessment instruments. Current CPR an asset. Experience working with a justice involved or with a forensic population preferred.
