This role has opportunity for some hybrid work.

Please note this job posting has been extended and will close Sunday, January 18th at 11:59pm.

There is very little as important as how we communicate with the student body. From the administrative or department level, the messages we send need to be clear, consistent and professional.

The Marketing and Communications department coordinates all marketing and advertising campaigns with the MSU, and develops long-term marketing strategies for the MSU.  The department plays a significant role in the creation and consolidation of the MSU's public image and will work to increase communication between the MSU, the students of McMaster University, and the external community.

General Scope of Duties

Reporting to the Marketing & Communications Director (MCD), the Communications Officer (CO) will be responsible for facilitating all marketing and communication for the McMaster Students Union (MSU). The Officer will act as a resource for the Board of Directors and General Manager in completing their marketing, public relations and communication goals. In addition, the CO will serve as a resource for all areas of the organization. The CO will work laterally with all persons responsible for promotion to ensure that the goals of the organization are being achieved in promotional and campaign materials. The successful applicant will be highly motivated to work in a fast paced environment, be extremely organized, detail oriented, have strong interpersonal skills and excellent time management skills.

Recognizing that the functions of communications and marketing encompass a broad and wide variety of roles and responsibilities, it is important to note that not all functions are contained within this definition, and the positions itself should be ever changing and adaptive to best meet the needs of the MSU. For a full list of duties and responsibilities, please download the full job description here.

We thank all applicants for their interest and effort in applying for the position, and advise that only those candidates selected for interviews will be contacted.

The McMaster Students Union (MSU) is strongly committed to employment equity within its community and to recruiting a diverse staff. The MSU encourages applications from all qualified candidates including women, persons with disabilities, First Nations, Métis and Inuit persons, members of racialized communities and 2SLGBTQIA-identified persons. If you require any form of accommodation throughout the recruitment and selection process, please contact the Human Resources Director by email at Please note that the MSU is an independently incorporated students' union operating within the McMaster University community; this is not a McMaster University position.
