About The Opportunity
As Financial Controller, you will oversee all aspects of the company's financial management, accounting, budgeting and reporting. You will partner with senior leadership and operations teams (plumbing, mechanical, retrofit, restoration) to ensure financial integrity, drive performance, support strategic growth initiatives and ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards and tax regulations.
You will lead the financial team, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, develop forecasting models and KPIs, optimize internal controls, and support decision-making with clear financial insights.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Lead and manage the full?cycle accounting function: general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, fixed assets, job-costing and consolidation
- Prepare, review and present timely monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow) and interpret variances
- Develop and maintain budgeting and forecasting models, including rolling forecasts, scenario analysis, and long?term financial planning
- Implement, monitor and continuously improve internal controls, policies and procedures to ensure accuracy, compliance and mitigate risk
- Support cost-tracking and profitability analysis of individual projects (mechanical retrofits; plumbing replacements; restoration works) and service lines; provide insights and recommendations to operations leadership
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, debt and covenant compliance; lead treasury management and banking relationships as required
- Collaborate with management on strategic initiatives such as service line expansion, equipment investments, facility upgrades, mergers/acquisitions or joint ventures
- Lead annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and tax advisors; manage tax planning, filings (corporate, HST/GST, payroll), and regulatory compliance
- Provide coaching, supervision and development for the finance & accounting team; build capability, streamline processes (leveraging technology and system enhancements)
- Prepare ad hoc financial analysis and reporting for senior leadership and board/stakeholders; support performance metrics (KPIs) relevant to the condo service environment (e.g., response times, service revenue per contract, repair vs. preventive ratio)
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., system automation, better cost visibility, improved forecasting) to support the company's growth strategy
About You
The successful candidate will have the following:
- Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA CA or CPA CG) is considered a strong asset
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive finance/accounting experience; previous experience as Financial Controller or senior accounting leader in a service?oriented business (preferably construction, mechanical/technical services or property management) strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of job-costing, project accounting, service contracts and service revenue recognition
- Hands-on experience with financial system implementations, process redesign, internal controls and audit/compliance
- Excellent financial analysis, modelling and forecasting skills; advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP or accounting systems
- Strong leadership and team-building skills; ability to coach and develop staff
- Exceptional communication skills, able to translate financial results into actionable insights and present to senior leadership
- High integrity, attention to detail, ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced service business
- Knowledge of Canadian accounting standards for private enterprises (ASPE) and tax regulations in Ontario
- Experience in a 24/7 services business or technically oriented environment is a plus
- Familiarity with the condominium property services sector, mechanical/plumbing/retrofit industry or working with condo boards is a distinct advantage
