Hours Per Week: 37.50 hours

Pay Range: $159,000 - $170,000 per annum (commensurate with experience/qualifications)

Canadore College is seeking a proven leader with excellent organizational, administrative, and academic skills to join a team of dynamic professionals dedicated to promoting student success and providing innovative, market-driven programs.

Reporting to the Vice-President Academic, the Dean will be accountable for providing senior academic and administrative leadership for the environmental studies and health science programs and will be a member of the College's Academic Leadership Team. The incumbent will be responsible for establishing community networks, strategic alliances, and partnerships to enhance opportunities for students, create value-added outcomes for business and industry partners, and will contribute to advancing teaching, learning, research and discovery, and community engagement.

As an ambassador and advocate for the College within and beyond the local community, the Dean will enhance student experience and success and play a central role in supporting the College's commitment to its 5 Pillars: Student Success, Program and Service Excellence, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Connection to Community and Sustainability.

Qualifications:

Education: Master's degree in health sciences or a related field is required; Ph.D. preferred.

Leadership in the Education Sector: Minimum twelve (12) years related, progressive work experience and five (5) years in senior leadership roles, preferably in a post-secondary setting; an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and recent related practical experience may be considered; demonstrated understanding and commitment to teaching excellence and quality education.

Strategic Acumen: Demonstrated ability to be a strategic and entrepreneurial thinker and planner; demonstrated collaborative, innovative, and confident leadership abilities reinforced by intellectual agility, objectivity, emotional intelligence, and self-awareness.

Management Acumen: Superior analytical, organizational, and managerial skills demonstrated within a diverse, unionized work environment; ability to cope with a demanding workload, remain calm and focused under pressure and able to manage and deal with a wide range of individuals with diverse backgrounds and needs.

Learning Approaches: Dedication to student success and a commitment to learning and development including flexible learning opportunities, experiential and cross-disciplinary learning; knowledge of adult learning styles, instructional design and distance learning approaches required for effective learning in higher education and business/industry; knowledge of instructional evaluation and assessment procedures in education and industry.

Research and Academia: Ability to inspire, educate, model best practices, and foster a culture of research and academia among Canadore College faculty, staff, administration, and students; experience developing and responding to RFPs and managing externally funded projects including applied research.

Partnership Development: Proven track record in team building and public relations to foster dynamic partnerships and working networks both within and external to the College; superior skills in public and private negotiation, conflict resolution, and collaboration building.

Financial Acumen: Experience in financial planning and management, budgeting, financial analysis, budget monitoring and reporting.

Continuous Improvement and Innovation: Ability to foster innovation and continuous improvement in a dynamic organization.

Diversity and Inclusion: Demonstrated experience, knowledge and understanding of working effectively in a diverse environment.

Legislation and Policy: Knowledge of policy and process related to college education; Solid understanding of the discipline/area of expertise including applicable professional and regulatory standards/requirements.

Communication and Interpersonal: Exceptional communication, listening, interpersonal and presentation skills with a demonstrated ability to consult widely and fairly in the identification of problems or opportunities and effective solutions.

In-person, on-site position; must be able to reliably commute and/or relocate to North Bay, ON

Responsibilities:

Academic Leadership and Operations

  • Develop and map current and future strategic business plans, goals, and objectives in line with the College and Academic Strategic Plans.
  • Provide transformational and visionary academic and administrative leadership to academic, support, and administration staff involved in the development and delivery of the courses and programs.
  • Advocate on behalf of students and staff at the college.
  • Lead the development of new courses/programs/offerings to assist the College with strategic initiatives, labour market needs, and emerging opportunities for international, cross-disciplinary, and technology-enabled offerings.
  • Contribute to the financial well-being of the College through exceptional planning, budget development, and administration of the academic programs and services.
  • Ensure current and future educational needs of students are met by implementing quality assurance processes for programs, including determining the need for the modification of existing courses/programs and the introduction of new courses/programs and delivery modalities.
  • Promote ventures by forming networks and linkages by developing partnership arrangements with business and community groups through program/service advisory committees, agreements, articulations and memberships in professional, community, academic, and business organizations.
  • Contribute to the development of college policies and operating procedures to meet the needs of students, client groups, community partners, government ministries/agencies.

Human, Financial Planning and Management

  • Ensure the effective use of fiscal, human, and physical resources within the programs through effective budgeting, executive plans, and general administration.
  • Ensure faculty and staff assignments are consistent with the College policies and procedures and collective agreements.
  • Responsible for faculty teaching and complementary function assignments ensuring equity and fair practice and creating an effective working environment for faculty members, support staff. and administrative staff.
  • Assess staff requirements and ensure high level of staff performance through effective recruiting, training, development, and evaluation of staff.
  • Ensure smooth and positive functioning of faculty through identification, mediation, and conflict management.
  • Provide expertise and advice to faculty, staff, and students on academic policies and procedures
  • Provide recommendations on financial matters through problem identification including compiling, monitoring, and analyzing operating and capital budgets, responding to college-wide financial initiatives.
  • Plan effective procurement and allocation strategies for both financial and physical resources within the relevant Schools according to the parameters of college and public sector accountability guidelines.
  • Facilitate the creation of annual program capital, consumable, and financial reports in collaboration with other departments.
  • Approve professional development and financial expenditures for staff in accordance with college policies.
