Selfless Heart is seeking a Casual Residential Care Worker to support persons with mental disabilities to achieve their optimal level of independence and enhance their quality of life through innovative services, education and community integration. Working in a group home of 10 individuals located in St. Mary's. (200 George Street)

Job Summary
This role requires someone who enjoys cooking and has experience preparing meals for groups. You'll help support residents by planning and preparing meals as part of your daily duties.
In consultation with the House Manager, the Residential Care Worker provides companionship, housekeeping duties and support to persons with mental disabilities living in a group home. Provide a safe, natural, clean, home-like environment. Observes and monitors the residents and their environment each shift, and reports physical, cognitive, or behavioral changes, to the House Manager. Assists individuals to enhance quality of life with activities of daily living and the development of life skills. Encourages the residents to be as independent as possible and to achieve an active, productive, and rewarding lifestyle by working side by side with the residents, implementing positive, creative experiences to enhance resident quality of life.
Duties
- Provide day-to-day support to residents, meal preparation, cooking, medication administration, and household tasks.
- Safe administration of medication in accordance with the treatment objectives and/or care plans, policies and procedures
- Observe and report any concerns or side effects around medication to the House Manager
- Demonstrated working knowledge of mental health issues and treatment in the assigned client population(s)
- Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations and use non-violent crisis intervention.
- Implement individualized support plans and behavior support strategies as directed.
- Encourage and support residents in developing social, and life skills.
- Assist residents with community involvement, appointments, and recreational activities.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including daily logs, incident reports, and progress notes.
- Monitor and ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all residents.
- Work collaboratively with the team, families, and external professionals to support residents' needs.
- Respond appropriately to crisis situations, following established protocols.
- Uphold organizational policies, confidentiality, and professional boundaries.
- Provides feedback and input regarding client's needs, performance, and progress to House Manager
- Perform duties such as reporting observations of client function, mental health status, needs, and progress as well as the individual's preferences, level of acceptance/resistance to services and supports
- Ensure a safe and healthy working environment by observing and reporting incidents and near misses as per Selfless Heart Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures
- Provide support with practical day to day problem solving for individuals who experience severe challenges in daily living because of their mental illness and/or substance use disorder
- Perform facility maintenance and housekeeping duties, laundry, cleaning, and maintaining the cleanliness and accessibility of the facility
- Attend training sessions that promote equity, diversity, and inclusion
- Performs other related duties as assigned within scope
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (post-secondary education in social services, developmental services, or related field preferred).
- Previous experience in a group home, residential care, or human services setting an asset.
- Related experience working with the disabled population in a group home setting
- Recent related experience in behavior modification techniques
- Non-violent crisis intervention certificate is an asset
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Valid First Aid/CPR certification, Level C
Food Handler Certificate
Valid driver's license access to a reliable vehicle (2 million Professional Liability Insurance coverage is essential)
