ABOUT THE ROLE:
Garden River First Nation (GRFN) is seeking two By-Law Officers to help protect and enhance the safety, well-being, and harmony of our community. The By-Law Officer enforces GRFN by-laws and Band Council Resolutions, responds to public complaints and inquiries, and ensures compliance through education and respectful enforcement. This role contributes directly to maintaining a healthy and safe environment across the First Nation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Enforce compliance with GRFN bylaws and regulations.
Investigate complaints, issue warnings, and follow up on resolutions.
Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on enforcement activities.
Educate and engage community members about by-law requirements.
Conduct patrols and respond to incidents to promote safety.
Represent GRFN in court or hearings as needed.
Support the development and review of by-law policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Ø Diploma in law enforcement, public administration, or related field (preferred).
Ø Minimum 2 years' experience as a by-law officer, police officer, or in a related enforcement role.
Ø Strong communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.
Ø Proficient in report writing, documentation, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Ø Ability to handle challenging situations with professionalism and discretion.
Ø Knowledge of First Nation culture, values, and traditions.
Ø Valid Class "G" driver's license and ability to travel.
Ø Must undergo a criminal record check and driver's abstract before employment. (At applicant's Expense).
