Position Summary
The District Sales Manager's role is to ensure achievement of the Canadian sales objectives and growth the business in line with the Company's mission; to develop and implement sales plans across country through both strategic and tactical activities; manage, coach and lead a team of sales professionals, to be accountable to the sales objectives, to accurately forecast sales projections; and to provide regular feedback on the status of specific sales opportunities, the market and competitor activities.
Position is location: Canada
Position is field-based, customer-facing and Home office based.
Changes to individual responsibilities may occur due to business needs and other related duties may be assigned.
Preferred Experiential Background
- Knowledge of national clinical and research applied genetics and genomics is required.
- Demonstrable experience working with key clinical and research accounts and customers across Canada
- 15+ years or equivalent of proven life science capital sales experience.
- Experience in managing and leading a team to meet sales objectives
- Success in mentoring or coaching a team in delivering results
- Success working effectively within a highly collaborative, team setting.
- Experience in consultative and strategic selling situations.
- Success driving complex sales within multi-layered environments.
- Experience winning/growing business and establishing long-term customer relationships.
- Highly motivated with strong drive to deliver exceptional results individually and as part of a team.
- Success working in a fast-paced environment and adapting to change.
- Understanding of next generation sequencing (NGS) and genotyping is foundational to the position.
Scope Of Responsibilities
- Executes operational objectives and partners with senior leadership on strategic planning.
- Recommends methods to improve operational effectiveness.
- Develops, modifies, and executes company policies that affect immediate operations and may have an enterprise-wide effect.
- Works on highly complex assignments where problem solving requires conceptual thinking as all factors may not be clearly defined.
- Implementation/execution of sales plan to meet assigned district sales quotas.
- Adjustment to sales plan in accordance with changing Company and customer needs.
- Own and engage in accurate forecasting and sales pipeline management activities.
- Manage team's proactive utilization and maintenance of CRM database.
- Demonstrate command of scientific knowledge to lead collaborative and consultative sales process.
- Interactions require the ability to negotiate and persuade others in sensitive and complex situations while preserving relationships.
- Frequently interacts with senior management and/or executives on matters concerning several functional areas, divisions, and/or customers.
- Proactively monitor emerging market trends and customer needs in order to identify new opportunities for the Canadian market
- Effectively collaborate cross-functionally across company regardless of geographic location, in order to achieve goals and meet customer needs.
- Successfully mentor Territory Account Managers to navigate and manage a multi-tiered sales process for capital equipment, consumables, and services.
- Effectively handle interpersonal challenges and keep self/team focused on customer.
- Frequently advises team(s) on complex matters and has significant influence in terms of budget, methods, and staffing.
- versees experienced professionals and may be responsible for subordinate supervisors and/or managers.
Experience/Education
- Required: Life Science Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 15 years of related experience, with 3+ years of Management experience.
