The Product Innovation team infuses the lululemon apparel business with new ideas, new understanding, new technologies, & new products. With a diverse and passionate team of innovators, our leading human and material research infrastructure, and the pioneering Science of Feel innovation philosophy, the Product Innovation team ensures that lululemon remains at the forefront of the sport, exercise, and lifestyle apparel industry. We need you to lead a diverse portfolio of projects, develop your team, inspire the business, and ensure the delivery of a continuous stream of innovative concepts.
core responsibilities
This role is responsible for leading the design and development of innovative apparel concepts, with a specific focus on future-facing materials, technologies, and manufacturing methods (e.g. those that have not yet been scaled or widely adopted, and are new to world). As part of a small yet experienced internal team supplemented by a large extended network of external collaborators, this person will turn early-stage technologies into clear and tangible prototypes, compelling lululemon storytelling, and captivating public-facing innovation showcases and bring future technologies relevant to lululemon to life.
- Lead the development of high-impact (e.g. tangible and technically credible, and creative and compelling prototypes) that explore and illuminate the potential of new materials, technologies, and manufacturing methods for the future of lululemon.
- Create the physical prototypes that are used as tangible expressions of future opportunity spaces for cross-functional partners
- Support the translation of prototypes, developed both internally and through external partners, into compelling narratives
- Ensure prototypes and concepts are optimized for physical or digital demonstration, enabling the creation of immersive experiences that enhance the perception of lululemon's innovative future.
- Work closely with a small, experienced yet diverse internal team along with cross-functional partners to ensure developed concepts are relevant to the brand's long-term direction and connected to broader business opportunities.
- Identify and co-create with external partners to expand our creative and technical reach. Continuously scout and share promising innovations to support concept development and inspire future directions.
- Determine how external 'make' collaborators work with the internal team and other parties where appropriate.
- Provides guidance on technological feasibility (e.g. through hands on experimentation) and relevance to future guest that will help parties responsible for the further development and scaling of technologies.
qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or related field
- 10+ years of experience in industrial or apparel-related design, with a strong focus on innovation, emerging materials, advanced manufacturing, or wearable technology
- Proven ability to lead the design and development of high-impact, future-facing prototypes, from early ideation to public demonstration
- Advanced proficiency in CAD and visualization tools (e.g., Rhino, SolidWorks, CLO3D, KeyShot), with the ability to switch between digital and physical prototyping workflows
- Strong sketching and storytelling capabilities that support early-stage ideation, concept communication, and public-facing design narratives
- Deep understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and apparel construction, including both traditional and experimental methods
- Strong experience working with or managing cross-functional relationships and those with external collaborators (e.g., research labs, studios, startups), including co-development of prototypes and concepts
- Excellent communication skills and portfolio that showcases a blend of visionary thinking and hands-on execution, including speculative, exploratory, or concept-driven design work

compensation and benefits package
lululemon's compensation offerings are grounded in a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes exceptional individual and team performance. The typical hiring range for this position is from $119,200-$156,500 CAD annually; the base pay offered is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our competitive annual bonus program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
