Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Soma Energy Full time $130,000 - $150,000 per year

Who We Are

We're building a diverse, ambitious team driven by curiosity, creativity, and a passion for applying modern AI to real-world climate and energy challenges. If you're excited to create real impact at the intersection of AI, climate, and energy, we'd love to meet you.

About the Role

You are a seasoned Product Designer, leading the design vision for our AI-driven products, collaborating closely with engineering, product, and business teams. You will play a pivotal role in shaping intuitive, high-impact user experiences that drive adoption and deliver measurable environmental outcomes. This is a unique opportunity to define design standards and influence product strategy from the ground up in a stealth environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Product Design: Own the end-to-end design process, from discovery and ideation to high-fidelity prototypes and final UI.

  • User-Centered Research: Conduct user research, interviews, and usability testing to inform and validate design decisions.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, engineers, and AI specialists to translate complex concepts into accessible, elegant solutions.

  • Design Systems: Establish and maintain a scalable design system that ensures consistency and efficiency across products.

  • Rapid Prototyping: Create wireframes, interactive prototypes, and design specifications for new features and iterations.

  • Feedback & Iteration: Gather feedback, analyze data, and iterate quickly to improve user experience and product-market fit.

  • Confidentiality: Uphold the highest standards of discretion and security, given the sensitive nature of our work in stealth mode.

  • Mentorship: Guide and mentor junior designers, fostering a culture of creativity, rigor, and continuous improvement.

What we look for
  • 5+ years in product or UX/UI design, with a strong portfolio of shipped digital products (preferably in AI, cleantech, or startup environments).

  • Deep understanding of design tools (Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite) and familiarity with agile product development.

  • Expertise in qualitative and quantitative user research methods.

  • Ability to translate technical AI concepts into user-friendly interfaces; experience working with data-driven or AI-powered products is a plus.

  • Passion for cleantech, sustainability, or climate innovation.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity, rapid change, and the unique demands of a stealth startup.

  • Exceptional communication, storytelling, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.

We thrive on diverse perspectives, skills, and experiences to push the boundaries of AI-driven solutions. We hire based on talent and potential, ensuring equal opportunity regardless of background. If you need accommodation during the hiring process, let us know, we will work with you.

  • Competitive compensation between $130,000 - $150,000 and will commensurate with relevant professional experience
