Established commercial/residential millwork operation serving the local BC market is looking for an experienced Millwork Designer to join our established operation. As a skilled technical specialist you are comfortable taking on the challenges inherent to integrating all engineering/designing steps in the process of cabinet and millwork manufacturing.

Working as part of a team of fully trained and experienced estimators/project managers and production staff your day to day responsibilities will include:

  • Engineer and create accurate drawings of casework, panels, and other components for commercial/residential millwork in Mozaik and AutoCAD using supplied dimensions, drawings and estimating data.
  • Adhere to required project specifications, building codes and other industry standards as specified.
  • Ensures the efficient utilization of software features to get the full impact of this integrated screen to machine system to maxmize production and minimze duplication and human error.
  • Ensures that all drawings are correctly utilized to generate tool paths for use on a variety of CNC machines (CNC routers, edgebanders and automated saws).
  • Ensures that machine operators are correctly accessing and using the prepared programs, notes, and support material to operate CNC machines efficiently to complete production projects on time.
  • Ensures that proper tooling is available and selected for each job and that operators understand any special material requirements for each job.
  • Generates reports as required so that Mozaik data can be integrated with other established systems.
  • Assist in resolving any production machine programming issues that may arise.
  • Support and or conduct any additional programming (eg. parametric programming or material nesting) to ensure maximum material utilization and efficient production.
  • Work closely with with Estimating/Project Management and Production staff to prepare preliminary bid packages, identify and resolve technical issues and challenges.
  • Carry out basic project management functions to ensure projects stay on track for timely completion.
  • Ensure that measurements and technical data collection from site is complete, accurate and current.
  • Communicate requirements for projects as they evolve due to changes in site readiness.
  • Handle inquiries from other stakeholders as to project developments and issue resolution.
  • Look for opportunities to protect or improve project margins through innovation and best practices.

To fully qualify for and be successful in this position you must have:

  • AutoCAD experience in a Casework, Millwork or Woodwork type environment.
  • A minimum of 3 years' related experience in the production environment of a medium to large millwork or cabinet manufacturer.
  • A strong overall understanding of computerized systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings/bid documents and conceptualize projects accurately.
  • Excellent analytical and judgmental skills; detail oriented and organized with an ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize daily tasks and implement processes and procedures to support this.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and with tight deadlines.
  • Team player with an ability to work with others effectively and respectfully.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency using other general office software (eg Microsoft Office).
  • A personal drive to reach your development potential as a design/engineering professional.

NOTE; This position requires engineering skills as defined in cabinetmaking. It is NOT a designated engineer job.
