ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Youth Wellness Hub York Region Manager, the YWHO Mental Health Clinician will work as a member of a diverse multidisciplinary team to support youth experiencing mental health and substance use challenges, including additional needs related to their overall health and wellbeing. The Youth Wellness Therapist will be responsible for providing youth with mental health and substance use treatment within the York Region Youth Wellness Hub (YWHO). This role will include conducting screening, assessments, individual and group treatment and case management support. The YWHO Mental Health Clinician will work in collaboration with youth, family members, colleagues and other service providers to identify a youth's needs and goals, develop a session and/or treatment plan and provide services to youth as part of an integrated system of care.
Employment Status: Permanent Part-Time
Location: Jane Street, Maple, ON - This position will require travel within York Region.
Hours of Work: Thirty Five (35) hours per week, including evening work.
Salary Range: $69,514 to $73,746
A LOOK AT YOUR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Actively develop positive rapport with youth and create psychological safety and trust through relationship-building activities and observation of the youth physical and emotional wellbeing.
- Provide one-on-one (1:1) and group mental health and/or substance use interventions.
- Provide therapeutic counselling using a range of evidence-based and/or evidence-informed practices, including provision of psychoeducation as needed.
- Incorporate mental health and substance use service strategies that are reflective of the diverse needs of youth (e.g., youth-centered and developmentally appropriate) and their families.
- Collaborate with youth and supports the use of YWHO standardized measures, practicing measurement-based care to provide mental health and substance use services, monitor progress, and improve youth outcomes.
- Provide hybrid services on-site, off-site and virtually as needed.
- Plan and facilitate outreach activities with youth.
- Participate in program planning, implementation and evaluations.
- Create and maintain a developmentally appropriate, non-judgmental, non-stigmatizing, safe, and welcoming hub atmosphere.
- Actively engage with youth to co-design programs and respond to youth needs.
- Operate as a member of a multidisciplinary team to provide support to youth and collaborate with hub staff and a network of community partners.
- Utilize knowledge of community and agency programs in York Region to support transitional age youth to adult services.
- Develop collaborative approaches with youth and their families (where families are available) to identify high-risk circumstances and safety planning.
- Provide referrals to appropriate services or connects youth with appropriate support when resources and services are not available through the hub or network partners.
- Provide services and support to youth in a way that is consistent with the values of the YWHO Model.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- Completion of a post-secondary education in Social Work, Addictions and Mental Health, Counselling, Psychology or relevant health and social science field.
- Membership in a relevant professional regulatory body such as the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and/or College of Psychologist and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario etc.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience working with youth and transitional aged youth experiencing mental health and substance use challenges.
- Knowledge of child and youth mental health legislation and regulations, including child welfare and education systems.
- A willingness to work flexible hours which include evenings and some weekend work; comfortable working in office and in community-based settings.
- Strong skills in counselling, psychoeducation, clinical assessment, case management, and treatment are essential.
- Competence in modelling professionalism and maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including editing skills with attention to detail.
- Knowledge of child and youth development, family systems and neurobiology, including community and agency programs and services to support the transition of age youth and adults.
- Strong knowledge of evidence-based and evidence-informed treatment modalities, including but not limited to; Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Emotion Focused Skill Training, Emotion Focused Family Therapy, Trauma-Informed and Attachment-Based Therapy.
- Demonstrates sound judgement related to the development of collaborative approaches working with children, youth and their families, including high-risk circumstances and safety planning.
- Experience utilizing suicide risk assessments, negotiation and intervention skills.
- Demonstrates versatility in the ability to work independently and collaboratively to support agency and program goals.
- Excellent organizational, solution-based problem-solving and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Experience facilitating groups, webinars and workshops utilizing evidence-based practices.
- Functional technological skills (e.g., Office 365, MS Office, SharePoint, software applications).
- Awareness and appreciation for the dynamics of equity issues (diversity, equity and inclusion), especially as it relates to gender, ethnicity, race, and economic status.
- Identification with the strategic mission, vision and values of the organization including inclusion, collaboration, people centred, knowledgeable and courageous.
- Driver's license and clear driver's abstract, including proof of automobile insurance.

ON-BOARDING REQUIREMENTS:
- A Vulnerable Sector Screening Check (within the last 180 days).
- First Aid Certification (CPR/AED Level C).
- Formal Crisis Intervention Training.
- Valid Ontario Driver's License and access to a reliable motor vehicle.
- Completion of a Driver's Abstract.
- Proof of automobile insurance.
