We are seeking an experienced
Payroll & Benefits Specialist
to support end-to-end payroll processing and benefits administration for a mid-sized organization operating in a regulated environment. This is a
contract opportunity (3 months with potential extension)
for a detail-oriented professional who can take ownership quickly and ensure accuracy, compliance, and a positive employee experience.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Administration

  • Process bi-weekly and/or monthly payroll accurately and on time
  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local payroll regulations
  • Reconcile payroll data and investigate discrepancies
  • Prepare and submit payroll taxes and year-end filings
  • Manage payroll changes related to new hires, terminations, and employee updates
  • Calculate bonuses, overtime, and other variable compensation
  • Support complex payroll scenarios, including multi-jurisdiction processing

Benefits Administration

  • Administer group benefits programs (health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, retirement plans, etc.)
  • Coordinate benefits enrollment for new hires and annual open enrollment
  • Ensure benefit deductions are correctly reflected in payroll
  • Liaise with benefits providers and resolve employee or vendor issues
  • Verify and process benefit invoices and billing statements
  • Support annual benefits renewals and benchmarking activities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Human Resources, or a related field
  • or
    formal training in Payroll Administration
  • 3–5 years of hands-on payroll and benefits experience
  • Experience using payroll systems (ADP preferred; other systems welcomed)
  • Strong knowledge of payroll tax regulations and benefits administration
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Clear communication skills and a customer-focused mindset
