About the Role

The Finance Officer is responsible for the day-to-day management of Mi'kmaw Cultural Foundation's finances. This includes bookkeeping, reporting, payroll, budget development, and fund tracking across multiple projects and funding streams. The ideal candidate will bring experience in charity or non-profit financial management and an understanding of social enterprise operations and charity compliance.

Key Responsibilities

● Maintain accurate financial records and ledgers for all foundation programs and projects.

● Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements for management and the Board.

● Manage accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.

● Develop and monitor organizational and project budgets.

● Track and report on grants, contributions, and restricted funds.

● Ensure compliance with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) charitable requirements and funder reporting standards.

● Assist with annual audits and coordinate with external accountants.

● Support the development of financial policies and internal controls.

● Provide financial insights for social enterprise and revenue-generating initiatives.

Qualifications

● Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (or equivalent experience).

● Minimum 3 years of experience in financial management for a charity, non-profit, or social enterprise.

● Strong working knowledge of charitable financial compliance and reporting requirements.

● Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar).

● Excellent organizational and analytical skills, with attention to detail.

● Ability to work independently and manage multiple funding streams.

● Familiarity with Mi'kmaw culture and values is considered a strong asset.

Job Type: Fixed term contract

Contract length: 42 weeks

Pay: $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
