Summary:
We are a large, PE-backed recurring revenue business with ~5,000 employees and a highly acquisitive growth strategy. We are seeking a Payroll Supervisor to help lead payroll operations, ensure compliance, and manage a team responsible for accurate and timely payroll processing across multiple entities. This role will oversee payroll staff, drive process improvements, and partner with HR and Finance to deliver a seamless employee experience while maintaining strong internal controls.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise payroll specialists and coordinate daily payroll operations.
- Provide training, mentorship, and performance feedback to payroll team members.
- Allocate workload and ensure deadlines are consistently met.
- Payroll Oversight
- Oversee bi-weekly or semi-monthly payroll cycles for employees across multiple U.S. states.
- Review and approve payroll reports, reconciliations, and adjustments.
- Ensure accurate handling of PTO, overtime, bonuses, commissions, and deductions.
- Compliance & Governance
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations (FLSA, tax laws, etc.).
- Ensure proper documentation and adherence to internal controls.
- Support quarterly and annual filings (W-2, 941, unemployment reports).
- Strategic Initiatives
- Lead payroll system upgrades, integrations, and automation projects.
- Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability.
- Manage onboarding of newly acquired entities into payroll systems.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with HR and Accounting to maintain accurate employee data.
- Serve as escalation point for complex payroll inquiries and issue resolution.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of U.S. payroll experience, including multi-state payroll.
- Prior supervisory or team lead experience in payroll operations.
- Strong knowledge of wage & hour laws and payroll compliance.
- High proficiency in Workday and ADP payroll systems (experience with UKG, Paylocity, or similar is a plus).
- Advanced Excel skills and ability to manage large datasets.
- Experience in PE-backed or high-growth environments. (Preferred)
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or FPC certification. (Preferred)
- Background in M&A payroll integration. (Preferred)
