**The Position**:
Boarding Staff engage boarding students in activities both academic and personal and ensure individual needs, strengths and talents are developed. They provide support for students and have empathy for the social and emotional issues adolescents may face in a Boarding School setting. Boarding Staff work closely and collaborates with the Head of the Boarding School, Assistant Head of Boarding, Health Care Providers, Faculty, parents and other boarding staff members to ensure continuity of care and support for students.

Boarding staff are approachable, attentive, reliable, supportive and understanding members of the Boarding community who are enthusiastically engaged in the life of the school. Boarding Staff are required to live on campus during the school year and have the option to reside on campus during the summer months. They must be able to commit to working a rotating schedule of mornings, evenings and weekends.

Operationally, boarding staff support the Head of Boarding to oversee and manage a supportive and inclusive boarding program that contributes to a dynamic and forward-focused boarding life program. This program is designed to develop skills, create opportunities for social engagement, and promote healthy active living and social /emotional wellbeing. The team creates a safe and vibrant home environment. This requires the development of a collaborative working relationship with the boarding team as well as all departments within the school and other independent schools in the city of Toronto.

**Specific Accountabilities**:

- Ensure overall student needs are met including physical and mental health, social wellbeing, behaviour management, and emotional support
- Supervise evening study
- Support and implement boarding programming
- Lead and mentor advisory group for 8-10 students
- Organize and facilitate activities for student both on and off campus
- Communicates effectively with parents, teachers, and counsellors as needed
- Maintains professional accountability, boundaries, responsibility and model appropriate behaviour
- Establish boarding expectations aligned with the Code of Conduct, school handbooks and other school policies for students and carry out disciplinary measures when necessary
- Manage and maintain the Boarding School to ensure a safe, secure and clean environment by conducting regular inspections and completing duties necessary to the smooth functioning of the Boarding School
- Coordinate safety checks and oversee adherence to regulations in accordance with the School Emergency Procedures
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive issues and materials
- Manage one program in the day school
- Contribute to maintaining an environment of inclusion in accordance with the School’s shared values of respect, teamwork and collaboration
- Any other responsibilities, in a variety of circumstances, as required by the Head of Boarding School and the Assistant Head of Boarding

**Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience**

**Education and Experience**:

- 3 + years of recent relevant education and/or experience, ideally in Education, Recreation and Health, or youth care settings
- Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in education or youth care related field

**Required **Qualifications**
- Experience working within a diverse team
- Experience supporting students with diverse backgrounds and identities
- Current First Aid/CPR certification; CPR Level “C” with AED is an asset
- Ability to successfully obtain Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) criminal record check clearance
- Must be able to work evening, overnight and weekend shifts as part of a work schedule
- Experience working in a boarding school setting/ living and working in a dorm
- Understanding of the developmental stages of adolescents including their health and wellbeing needs
- Key competencies and emotional intelligence in self-awareness, self-management, empathy, initiative and accountability
- Ability to assess daily operations and make good judgement decisions and recommendations based on the values of the school
