We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Grounds Manager to lead our grounds maintenance operations and snow removal operations, ensuring our client properties remain safe, beautiful, and meticulously maintained throughout every season.

As the Senior Grounds Manager, you'll oversee a dedicated team of grounds and maintenance professionals, fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, and excellence. This is a hands-on leadership role that values teamwork, attention to detail, and pride in delivering high-quality outdoor environments year-round, including efficient snow and ice management during the winter months at a large facility located in Sudbury, Ontario

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for all daily operations of the grounds team, including landscapers, maintenance, and snow removal personnel.
  • Support the supervisor to plan, coordinate, and oversee landscaping, grounds maintenance, and snow removal activities such as mowing, trimming, planting, plowing, salting, and seasonal clean-ups.
  • Ensure the proper maintenance of all outdoor areas, including lawns, gardens, parking lots, and pathways.
  • Maintain and repair irrigation systems, water features, outdoor equipment, and snow removal machinery.
  • Provide on-call supervisory support during snow events and emergencies, ensuring timely response and safe working conditions for staff and clients.
  • Develop and manage schedules for seasonal landscaping projects, snow removal routes and general maintenance tasks.
  • Monitor and manage grounds keeping budgets, ordering supplies, and ensuring cost-effective solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, safety standards, and sustainability practices.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness and ensure all team members follow established safety protocols and best practices.
  • Oversee the implementation of landscape design improvements and seasonal plantings to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the grounds.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of the grounds to identify and address potential hazards or areas in need of attention.
  • Coordinate with external vendors for specialized services, including tree trimming, pest control, and snow hauling.
  • Maintain accurate records of grounds activities, including maintenance schedules, snow logs, and inventory management.
  • Serve as a frontline point of contact for client, addressing inquiries, concerns, and feedback with professionalism and a commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness and ensure all team members follow established safety protocols and best practices.
  • Provide professional development, training, and coaching to grounds staff to improve performance, efficiency, and career growth.
  • Collaborate with management to develop and implement strategies that enhance team effectiveness and client satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with Health & Safety (H&S) and Human Resources (HR)departments to ensure compliance with organizational policies, address employee relations matters, and promote a positive and safe work environment.

Note: This position will not be a role that is primarily in the office.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in horticulture, environmental science, or related field preferred: relevant experience will be considered.
  • 5 years of experience in grounds management, landscaping, or facilities maintenance, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong knowledge of landscaping practices, grounds maintenance techniques, snow and ice management and irrigation systems.
  • Experience managing a team, with strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to operate and maintain landscaping, grounds keeping and snow removal equipment.
  • Mechanically inclined would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with environmental and safety regulations related to grounds and snow maintenance.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
