Overview

The Family Support Outreach & Prevention Worker provides direct, hands-on support to children and families involved with Family Support Services and the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD). This role focuses on prevention, early intervention, and strengthening family functioning by offering in-home support, transportation, supervised visits, and skill-building opportunities. Working in partnership with Family Support Workers and MCFD, the Outreach & Prevention Worker helps foster safety, stability, and well-being for families through culturally safe, trauma-informed, and community-centered approaches. This position includes evening and weekend hours to meet the needs of families.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular home visits to support families in their home environments
  • Provide transportation to appointments, services, school, and supervised visits, ensuring safety and punctuality
  • Facilitate and monitor supervised family visits, documenting observations and promoting positive parent-child interaction
  • Offering parenting support, including education on child development, routines, discipline, and attachment
  • Provide life skills coaching such as household management, communication skills, nutrition, and hygiene
  • Delivering budgeting support, helping families build financial literacy, managing income, and accessing resources
  • Support families in navigating community resources, services, and cultural supports
  • Collaborate with Family Support Workers and MCFD Social Workers to ensure consistent and coordinated care
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services provided, visits conducted, and concerns observed
  • Participate in team meetings, case planning, and community events as required
  • Uphold confidentiality, cultural humility, and trauma-informed practice in all interactions
  • Any other duties as required

Ideal Qualifications and Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Human Services, or a related field
  • Experience working with families, Indigenous communities, and/or child welfare systems is an asset
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening required

  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed and culturally safe practices
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team

Work Conditions

  • This role requires a flexible work schedule based on programming and community-based support services.
  • Some work may be performed during Saulteau's regular office hours; however, some programming will fall outside of the regular office hours.
  • Travel will be required within SFN community and surrounding community.
  • Some evening and weekend work will be necessary.
  • Departmental vehicle supplied.
  • Wage: $27.76-$31.92
